This 3 watt headlamp was better than I expected for just $11. The packaging was very flimsy, but the headlamp turned out to be fairly good. The light is barely brighter than my 1 watt Princeton Tec EOS. Think of this as a 1 watt headlamp. Also, the clear lens throws rings of brightness and darkness. Very annoying light patterns, making it difficult to see detail. And it is not water proof. But I did use it in a heavy mist /light rain for about an hour without any trouble. I also scratched the lens with steel wool (on purpose) and it really smoothed out the light pattern. Don't scratch it too much, else it will dim the light. I also don't like that it uses 3 batteries rather than 2 or 4. However, it does use AA instead of AAA. So it lasts 3 times longer!! But all that said, I challenge you to find ANY headlamp this bright for $11. So far the buttons also work well! The light in the back is a bonus for those behind you. I have not yet tried to run with it.

Very bright light. Shipping was fast. But the batteries do not last too long.

Pretty decent light output and lens assembly is good. Battery pack is a little cheesy and need to be twisted to open. Not marked very well and or intuitive and mine has a snapped tab for the learning curve on that.

Finally received this today. No instructions what so ever. Don't load batteries by contact springs. You have to look on the outside of battery holder. Also, there are two buttons. One on the light to turn it on of course, but the other button on the battery pack is a mystery. There is a red light on the back of the battery pack that goes on when I push the button on the battery pack. But the light works whether or not the red light is on, or the button is pushed. So don't know what that does, and which position is wasting battery power. We love Meritline, and buy daily from them, but I am regreting this purchase.

ORDERED 2012 - POSSIBLE MERITLINE HAS CHANGED SPECS FROM EARLIER PURCHASES Light is bright enough to be functional, but is absolutely not produce the light I would expect from a 3 watt led. My guess is more like 1 watt - ~50 lumens. NOTE - earlier reviewer says 3 AA - The unit I was shipped in APRIL 2012 takes 3 AAA. ALSO - light was specifically ordered for REAR TAIL LIGHT LED as shown - No longer made with this added detail. Overall - satisfactory if not cheaply made headlight. Without rear LED this is absolutely not worth the $15 price.
