After some research, and with no help from Meritline I found the correct batteries for this flashlight. I order two UltraFire 18650 3000mAh 3.7V Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries and charger and this light rocks! It is by far the brightest light I own. It does have 4 modes, bright, less bright, SOS and Strobe. What is nice though is you don't have to cycle through them, it remembers the last setting. So - if you just want to turn it on and off in brightest mode all the time, that is what it will do. To change modes, you tap the switch while it is on until you get to the mode you want. If you turn it off while in that mode, it will turn back on in that same mode. All in all a great light and I will probably buy more. 4 stars instead of 5 for using non-standard batteries and for the extra effort I had to put in to find the correct ones.

Unbelievable!!! This lights the path and surrounding area well over 300'. Tried this on our driveway on a moon-less night and there is clear, near daylight, view for a span of 20' side to side and if the tree wasn't in the way the beam would project well past the 300' from the bottom of the hill to 1/2 way up our lot. Guess "Flower' and the cayotes can't hide from me at night anymore. I didn't realize there were other modes by tapping on the switch button, thanks Scott. This would get 10 stars if that were possible. I like the feel of the light without the weight, appears extremely well made, and the CREEs should last forever. Thank you Meritline...keep this in stock.

++++ one of the Brightest.+++ Draws 2+ amps so be sure to use good Protected batteries, Nice Spot with additional throw. I had to test many batteries just to find a few that could put out the power witout tripping off protection. This flashlight beats all meritline sells and is a super price at $29.99 you will not be dissappointed. Brighter than a car headlight.

As the previous reviewer stated - this flashlight does require 2-18650 Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries (Meritline has now updated the description to state this) AND it DOES rock if you are a LED flashlight-aholic (as I have become) then nothing in this price range compares! I have a Dorcy 4-AA Luxeon LED that is rated for 180 Lumens and this is AT Least 3 or 4 times as bright, although I have no way to measure the actual output. Buy it if you want a super bright flashlight! It puts my old rechargeable spotlights (that use lead acid batteries) to shame!

I used 3000mah red protected trustfire batteries, I have extensively tested them and none ever exceed 1750mah. average is 1000mah some of the protection cricuts work up to 2.5 amps but most dont. these flashlights Draw 2.7a on high. Be sure to use Protected batteries any time you use 2 together. 1 out of 5 work

QUOTE (from earlier review): Excellent flashlight. . It has a nice hefty feel. The only problem I encountered is that it seems to "disagree" with certain 18650 batteries. With some, the flashlight simply did not work. I ordered some Surefire 4000mAh (black background with gold lettering "surefire", so assume these are the real deal, but I believe the battery's protection is kicking out, because all modes work fine, except the highest intensity... it will fire for a few seconds, then shut off =============================================== THIS LAMP IS ALMOST LIKE THIS LED CREE 'BIGBOY': FandyFire STL-V2 CREE XM-LT6 5-Mode 3000-Lumen White 3-LED Flashlight - Black (2 x 18650) SPECS: Brand: FandyFire Model: STL-V2 Color: Black Emitter Brand/Type: Cree XM-L Emitter BIN: T6 Color BIN: White Total Emitters: 3 Battery Configurations: 2 x 18650 batteries (not included) Voltage Input: 3.2~8.4V Switch Type: Clicky/Clickie Switch Location: Tail-cap Modes: 5 Mode Memory: Yes Mod

(continued) ...some that work, but apparently felt the need to keep it a secret), I don't have much to go on. The ones stated to work are Surefire 3000mAh, mine are the same except 4000mAh, so I'd suspect they both have the same protection circuit. I guess it's luck of the draw, even within the same manufacturer type. I guess I'll have to order 2 of every type I can find on-line to discover what works. IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO ON WHAT HAS SUCCESSFULLY WORKED IN THIS LITE, PLEASE SHARE!

I just received my batteries for this lite yesterday (received the flashlight about 1 week ago, but had no batteries to test it out). I ordered some Surefire 4000mAh (black background with gold lettering "surefire", so assume these are the real deal, vs the generic blue ones that only have voltage & mAhr printed on it, with "surefire" nowhere), but I believe the battery's protection is kicking out, because all modes work fine, except the highest intensity... it will fire for a few seconds, then shut off (same results with 2 different sets of batteries). The mid & low beams, strobe and SOS work fine however. Even at the mid-intensity, this is one of the brightest lites I've seen, except my 5MC 12V lead-acid rechargeable, weighing in at ~10 pounds, so I don't mind loosing the extra 9 lbs at all! Nice lite, just disappointed that I have no use of the high-intensity yet. Since only one of the reviewers actually stated the brand of battery that works (instead of saying they've found
