Works well and great value. I checked an infared hearter to see what it is drawing in energy and was amazed that it was doing fine and the company advertized correctly.

Good price on a very effective tool for determining where your electricity dollar is going. For example I always thought my 20-year-old basement dehumidifier was a huge power hog, but when I ran its power through the kill-a-watt I saw it was only drawing about 300 watts max (equivalent to a halogen lamp). So now I don't worry nearly as much about how often the dehumidifer runs. The kill-a-watt will also show power factor (a measure of efficiency) - I found that our Dell servers at work had lousy power supplies that were only ~65% pf. It will also accumulate KWh over time, so for something that runs intermittently like a fridge you can leave it in for a week to get a good cumulative KWh consumption number.

This tool is very good. I can now know what appliances use what amount of electricity. I know that, for example, my dishwasher with drying cycle uses just 8 cents per wash cycle. However, no way to check the biggest electricity users, i.e. clothes dryer and range.

It comes in handy to find out how much power all those small, left-on items are taking.
