This is a great product, especially for its size. One of the poor reviews was for a completely different product, and the other just didn't know how to use the product. Unscrew the "match" with the small knurled knob and fill the cavity about 2/3 full with lighter fluid. Screw the match back in. Once the match is saturated, you can unscrew it, holding the canister vertical so fluid doesn't leak out, and strike the match down the side of the flint strip. It will spark and light the wick on the match, with a rather robust flame. You have to blow hard to blow it out. With it all sealed up, the fluid will remain for several days, probably longer than a Zippo.I ordered one, but I'm getting a couple more for backups.

Well made handy little fire starter. What the pictures don't show is the extra fabric material stored in the end accessable with a flathead screwdriver so this will definitely last through frequent use.I will buy it again at 3 bucks!

Works like a charm. Just make sure you have some lighter fluid to fill the little canister with. I use Zippo brand lighter fluid, and have not had any problems. Like all the "wilderness fire starters" that Meritline sells, you need to wear away the protective, outer layer of the fire-steel before it will spark. Underneath the black waxy layer, is the fire-steel itself. Dip the wick into the fluid-filled canister, and strike the fire-steel on the side of the canister. Works great.

I received this after 3 weeks, which is to be expected since it comes from Asia. When I first tried it, I couldn't figure out how to get even a spark. There are no instructions with it. Then I searched on Youtube for videos on 'flint and steel'. I was never in the boy scouts and never tried anything like this. After 5 minutes and several tries, I was able to get a fire started. The workmanship on this is pretty nice. It feels solid and looks to be built for the wilderness and built to last. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

As was the case with another reviewer, the flint bar became dislodged in transit. Unlike the other customer, I used a very small amount of 5 minute epoxy to glue it back into place. Having done that, it works very well and will be a standard take-along in my camping kit. So, it took an extra 5 minutes of work on my part and a small amount of materials to make this work the way it should have out of the box.

can anyone explain me how to use this in detail

***** This is an official reply from Meritline.com *****
Hello, This item helps create sparks from the friction of the flint and steel. In order to create the fire, there must be some sort of "fuel." Ideally, some dry brush that can easily catch fire would work best with this, maintaining the fire will be entirely up to the user. This item is simply to help start a fire if there is no other alternative. I hope this has answered your question.

Nice flint match. Lights everytime! I keep it with my camping gear and fill it before going out. Make sure the bottom is screwed on tight and that the O-ring on the bottom and on the match are intact or it will leak lighter fluid. I keep mine in an empty pill bottle that fits it perfectly and keeps it safe from leaks!

I have ordered this item twice, both times the item does not work. There are no sparks when 'striking' the metal match, therefore it cannot light itself. The friction flint material also rubs off quite quickly.
