I ordered this product because I wanted an IDE unit, but the dual feature gives me some flexibility in the future. The unit works quite satisfactorily as an IDE unit and I certainly would recommend it to others.

This product is well made and worked perfect with my 160GB hard drive SATA.

The product turned out terrible. With an IDE drive inside it would power up but not be recognized by any computer, didn't have a SATA drive to see if the same would happen. The USB power adapter to I guess power the device when using ESata has a plug too small to fit into the drive enclosure. It certainly looks nice and the build quality seems okay, maybe I had the luck of getting the dud in the batch. The Meritline Customer service was great and fast. After a few initial email questions back and forth on them trying to trouble shoot, I was given a refund three hours after my initial complaint.

I was a bit disappointed at first. First, the "User Manual" was not for this item. It shows a 2 piece case and makes no mention of the (e?)sata port, and a slide in circuit board. So it was useless. The board has connectors on both ends. One end; usb, power & sata ports. The other has what appears to be a IDE connection (43pins) not tested. To insert HDD you must slide the board out. That was ok but sliding it back in was bad news. It seemed to bind in the rails and got stuck. I was initially trying this w/o the HDD fitted. With the HDD it seemed to work better. The HDD bangs against the case, so I fitted bumpers to it to reduce movement. Tested the usb and it was fine. I really liked: 1)Separate usb to power plug in addition to the standard 3 way usb. Never saw one of these before, might be useful, not tested. 2)Long shaft screwdriver. 3)Standard leather pouch. Curiously, the bag of screws also had 4 screws for the HDD but of no use with this case. Overall, worth the price

Excellent enclosure...love the choice of SATA or USB. I can hook my disk up to my cable box to expand storage or use it on my PC to do backups. Works well and is pretty fast.

It works and is cheaper than other places to do the same function.

IT Works. It will not show If the wiring order is backwards. If it shows as good and does not work on device then the order needs reversed at both ends of the run. It seems this is the only condition it has not detected. Good device, worth the price.

Its cheap and works like expceted - dont expect fireworks - its only an external hd enclosure ! Make sure to plug in the right end of the Y usb cable - otherwise your hd will not be recognized

High quality. A spare 2.5" IDE notebook drive fit perfect. One weak case screw needed touch of superglue per other reviews. Would buy again!

Our original unit must have had electronic issues. We returned it but had to pay return shipping. The new unit is very picky about the power it uses. Had no problem with the SATA mode. When using the USB mode I've gotten the best CONSISTENT results by combining a regular USB (single connection)cable WITH the cord which connects to the SATA power port from a 2nd USB port. My son uses it with his netbook. We are also able to watch movies off of it directly to our TV with just the one USB cable.
