Its good for connecting 2.5mm players like blackberry to audio systems. (Some old blackberry's are mono, so they play in only one speaker, that's not the problem of this product!!)

You get what you pay for. Makes my R&L headphones just R headphones. Don't waste your money. also u might forget that u placed any order with meritline as it takes around 3-4 weeks to come... no surety... though if u wanna develop patience buy it from meritline as i still do for some worthless products under $5...

Does not work as expected. The sound coming out is not stereo. I can get it to play in stereo if I pull the plug out a little, but most of the time it does not work correctly.

I just wanted to say to those of you that are buying this so that you can step down your regular stereo headphones, this is not that jack you need. This jack has 3 conductors and is specifically made for devices that have stereo sound plus a microphone. You can always tell by counting the black stripes on the male plug. If it has 2 stripes, it is a stereo plug, if it has 3, its stereo plus a microphone. Oh, if it only has 1 strip, then it is mono, like the old trassister radio ear phones. SKU: 253-480-001 is one that may come in handy for the stereo to stereo application, or the oppisite, depending which way you need to adapt. I know this can be a bit confusing and if all else fails the folks at your local Radioshack can help, but they cost a lot more.
