Continued: There is also absolutely no indication of the manufacturer or any contact info which means it is untraceable / or unaccountable which means there is no comeback if your computer breaks ...etc.. Conclusion: Mac users stay away. Don't be misled by the other claim and the repeated garble by reviewer" Liz Kril". Trust me, it will not make anymore sense when you have the modem either. Windows users/ linux users, for the price its a Great Deal. Use at your own risk though.

PROS: Works very well with Windows XP using smartlink software on installation disk, (but not the newer conexant software included.) Works well on Linux (UBUNTU) CONS: This product claims to work with Mac OSX but does not work with Mac OSX 10.5 or 10.6. It is not recognized (2 different machines) and there are no modem scripts that will work with it. It seems there are no OSX scripts available for it natively, from Conexant or any other source. "No Quick installation Guide" included despite the claim. CD ROM is a mini disc so it is not possible to load in an iMac or slot loading PC Optical dirves. There is nothing on there for Mac users anyway. Despite claiming CE and FCC approval, there is no documentation to support it so it is impossible to say if it is really approved or even safe. i.e there is no comeback if your computer breaks, your communication devices fail, your house burns down or a place crashes into your house because of your modem (extreme example

Works great with my new Macbook and os 10.6. Only problem is that no sound comes from it. It would be nice to hear the ringing and connection sounds to get an indication of the function. As it is, I have to bring up the fax dialog and follow the progress.

Works great with Linux Fedora Core 12. No drivers required, it's a hardware modem and the USB modem driver is compiled in the stock kernel. Arrived sooner than I expected. It uses a Conexant chip. Performance is right up there with the best of them. Been using this one a few days now without any problems. I might get another for my laptop.
