I got this too , one unit is bad, mine is also m/f, But I got it for half price, I always had good luck here, this is the first bad unit I got. I guess I just ran out of luck, Its cheap, throw it away and try again.

I'm thankfull for the heads-up on this cable package. I just was about to order. I have ordered this in the past and all was good. This new batch form China must be bad. I will look else were. Thanks once again for the info, Its feedback like this that keeps people from getting burned and nickel and dimed to death.
