FAQ of Digital Digital TV and Antenna:

1. Q:what antenna is required?
A: You can use any antenna to connect to HDTV, like regular UHF/VHF Rabbit ear antenna. But this HDTV antenna is rather good. You may pickup more channels.

2. Q:How to capture more digital channels with strong signals?
A: It is all about Direction and location. Pointing antenna to different direction to test the receiption and for sure you will get better signals when you place the antenna near the windows.

3. Q:Is Amplifier antenna better than those without amplifier?
A: Not really. Amplifiers can be very helpful, but they can also degrade the ability to tune a signal if they overload the tuner on your TV.

4. Q:I just bought a new LCD TV. Can I watch Free OTA HD channels with this antennna?
A: Yes. You just need an antenna.

5. Q:I have an old TV. How can I watch Free OTA digital TV channels?
A: You need two items: A DTV Converter Box and the antenna. Apply the DTV coupon online at https://www.dtv2009.gov/ApplyCoupon.aspx.

6. Q: How many Over the Air HD channels in my area?
A: Go to antennaweb.org and input your address. You will see all the digital and alanog channnels available in your area.

I live too far from the transmitting towers, so this antennae was not powerful enough to keep signal locked. Price was right.

Works as advertised. My friend actually took it home to compare it to his 80 dollar roof antenna he has in his attic. This little thing actually picked up more channels. Needless to say he wasn't very happy. I just picked it up for the price to try on my USB Digital Tuner for my laptop. Would be great for tailgating for watching pregame or the game on your PC in the parking alot

We bought this for use at our cabin in Catskill NY - for it's size we have been surprised at just how well it works - 6 channels when used inside - 12 when used outside - pulls in digital sations from Hartford, CT -

I was surprised how well this small antenna picked up stations over 20 miles away. It outperformed a 2x3 ft antenna I had been using.

I have one of these from some adapter I bought a long time ago to enable OTA HDTV for my computer. Well, never used it much although it did bring in the channels quite well. earlier this year I upgraded my Sat TV to HD and got a nice big plasma tv. Hmmmm... I thought may the ant will work on it for local channels. TV is in Rec room and window next to it is at ground level but I suction cupped it to the window and even with houses and trees in the way it pulls in a beautiful and strong signal and I'm probably at least 20 miles away from the transmitting ants. Works great for me! Looks exactly the same as the one on sale.

I do not recommend this Antenna, Signal Reception capability is weak, wall mount support won't stick properly to the wall, it falls down.

The product is good. There's no need to buy a power amplified antenna, this one works like a charm and save you money on electricity! No embarrassing bunny ears either, and it is compact enough to hide it behind the television. There is one thing that is annoying, that the suction cup doesn't really stay on, so make sure you clean the surface thoroughly before putting it on.

Great product. Works very well, and I enjoy watching the main stations, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX on their digital signals. Price comparison vs paying cable fees is great. I think this is a great product and allows for some extra channels to come in depending on where you live. Highly recommend.

Bought it. Tried it. I am 17 miles from NYC. Was practically useless. By comparison, signal strength on one UHF channel was AT BEST 52% with this antenna. When I tried the same channel with a pair of VHF "rabbit ears" from the dollar store, I got an 85% signal strength. Keep in mind that this antenna is designed to pick up UHF. I got a better signal with a VHF antenna FROM A DOLLAR STORE.

Could not be better for what it is. Works far better than more expensive antennas I have tried. Setup is simple, in most cases you do not even have to adjust the angle. Move it around once to get max signal strength and you are done, everything then comes in perfect.

I ordered this for a friend. It didn't work at all. I am preparing to return it for a refund. I do not recommend this to anyone. It is a waste of money and your time. I should have known that a product being sold so cheap would be useless. They probably know that and are counting on the fact that because the price is so low that no one would spend the amount of time to return it for a refund and pay the postage to do so. Don't waste your time. It is more valuable than this is. BTW this is a REAL review!

The performance of the antenna is very good. The mounting system is a little weak. It's plastic and won't hold up for long if you move it around a lot. I've used the antenna with two different digital converter boxes and it's definitely better than your average "rabbit ears" type cheap antenna. It has also worked good with an ATSC tuner card in my PC server.

I live in a fringe area near Tampa, Florida. I tested the antenna by comparing how many channels a portable digital TV could detect by auto scanning. I used the same location, same time and same TV. With the TV's telescopic whip style antenna, it was able to detect 13 channels. With the Artec antenna positioned facing the city, I was able to detect those 13 channels, plus 18 more for a total of 31. The stations ranged from channel 3-1 all the way up to 66-4. This is impressive performance from such a low priced, compact and light weight antenna. I highly recommend it!

Great Reception on 9/23/2009

Actually picks up very very good! I was surprised. I had a $40 Philips powered indoor antenna and this small little thing actually does a better job! Just a word of caution, this antenna is only UHF and not VHF/UHF. I ran into this problem with one local station broadcasting on the VHF frequency so just beware, other than that, simply great especially for the price

It works good! I rx'd 14 channels. We live south of Rockford, IL and I rx'd channels from Wis, Chicago, Indiana, 2 from the Quad Cities(Moline IL) WQAD Weather and their local station. Some stations I have never heard of, probably Chicago. Haven't had time to look them up on the Internet yet. The base is plastic with a plunger type suction base. Actually built pretty good for the under $10 price. The rectangular antenna itself has like a vinyl covering formed over it. Could just stick it on the inside of a window if you wanted too. I had mine on a shelf 2 ft. from the TV and then adjusted the antenna around till the TV started scanning for channels and adding them. Once I had the antenna adjusted though for the best reception, if I moved it - I lost the reception on all the channels till I put it back where I had it set. I'm using an older TV out in my garage with a digital converter box too, that might of been why it was so touchy. But when I put the antenna back where I had it se

OOps. It doesn't say it is outdoor rated but for $8.00 who cares.. You can just throw it away if it gets damaged. This is a great way to test if you need a bigger antenna also. BTW, I'm located in Los Angeles and the broadcasters are all located on one mountain and the signal is directional. This could make a difference if your area has signals coming from different areas.

I bought this not expecting much from an indoor antenna. I am 33 miles from the transmitter and I was only able to pull in all the UHF channels. Curious, I put the antenna outside and pulled in more channels. I then attached the antenna to a 5 foot wooden pole and pulled in all my channels. Higher isn't necessary better because if I lay it down, I pick up my FOX and UPN channels which I had difficulty with before. It just takes experimenting on finding the right angle. I cranked my TV volume up and listened for the station as I slowly maneuvered the pole. For the price, this is great!!! Since it is built for indoor/outdoor use hang it outside if you can. And if it gets damaged by the elements all you lost was about $8.00. That's a deal.

A piece of junk. The plastic just doesn't hold up. It will tilt the wrong way on its own after a few months use. The reception wasn't all that great. Only picked up a couple of HD channels with frequent freeze-ups. Spend a little more and get a better, more sensitive antenna.

Excellent picture on the channels it receives. Does need a much better Antenna than the one that comes with it. I recomend one that is easily mounted such as the RCA ANT1500 Multi-Directional about $25.99 and is flat. Can be mounted flat or on a wall and painted. The sice of a small ceilling tile. Maybe MeritLine can sell it.

It's inexpensive and generally works. If you want something simple that will get most of the available channels (assuming you're within range), this is a good choice. I have 3 indoor UHF antennas and 1 outdoor. The outdoor is big and works best, but it's not always practical to have a 3'x2' antenna. As far as the indoor go. They all work pretty much the same. I can get about 2/3rd of the channels. Sometimes I have to move the antenna a little to get it to work. This antenna is small and cheaply made, but it works.

Works the best of any of the more expensive antennas I have tried.I bought 3 of them. Even the one in the basement works great. Realize that digital TV signals are harder to capture than analog.

The antenna does not have USB connection. With my HDTV only one channel was clear. I want to return it but don't know how?

***** This is an official reply from Meritline.com *****
This antenna does not have USB connection, and manufacturer's online product description indicates this antenna has "F plug" as connector. To return this antenna, please contact our return department at rma@meritline.com for service.

Service from Meritline was excellent as always. Performance of the antenna is good but has its limitations in that placement is key and there are some channels missing that I feel should be available. Other than that, it is serving the purpose of providing an alternative to Cable TV in the rooms where we do not have cable.

This antenna works, but I can't compare it to others since this is the first indoor antenna I've used in many years. It pulls in stations just fine, but does require adjusting for some stations. All stations are within 15 miles of my home. Construction is a little flimsy. Rain interferes with the signal significantly.

You can't go wrong with the price of the Artec Digital HDTV Flat Antenna. I am lucky that all the TV stations have their antennas in the same location and I have line-of-sight to them. I have no signal problems as a result. If you had good reception with a VHF rabbit ears antenna before the the June cut-over to HDTV then the UHF Artec antenna should work ok for you. The Artec antenna has a suction cup base and also comes with an easily removable sticky disc you can use for non-porous surfaces. I wanted a more stable base that I could move around so I attached the antenna to an old CD disk.

Great little antenna that does the job of picking up the one network from a different market that I can't get in my local market, due to the NBC affiliate deciding to move from UHF back to its original VHF. By using this antenna to get that network from a different market, I am saving almost $30 on the cost of a different antenna. Very pleased, this was my first time with this website and I am very happy with the product and the service I received here. Thanks!

spl140 on 6/15/2009

The price on these ($2 special) was worth trying them out. These are UHF band, and not designed to pull in channels far out. If you live close to antennas, you will probably get a bunch of channels, but you got to do your research to know what antenna is right for where you live in relation to the antennas. All that said, where I live, these antennas just pick up only a couple channels. However, the channel it picks up is an NBC affiliate in Rhode Island, which is crystal clear. In Boston, the NBC affiliate has chosen to be the sole station to migrate back to VHF. So rather than return the large antenna I bought for a much more expensive one that can get Channel 7, I am using this little guy to pull in this sole station from Rhode Island, and I now have all my networks. Very pleased, but again, do your research to make sure this is the right antenna for where you are. Meritline again was superb in this transaction.

Setup was easy. The tuner programmed itself and was ready to go in a couple of minutes. The picture on my set looked excellent. The remote worked without a problem. A multifunction remote would be the only added feature for this unit. I don't have any experience with other Digital converter boxes to make any comparisons, but this works as advertised. I picked up a second unit to use on another set in my house. It definitely works for my 2 tv sets.

Bought this based on friend's recommendation - strange, it picks up VHF signals also even though the specs say UHF only. It has excellent reception (88% to 100%) signal strength for over the air digital signals (channel 2 thru 58) in the North Orange County, CA area.

I didn't believe that a cheap antenna could do any good. I bought a RCA rabit ear and a Philip antenna from Walmart for my over the air TV. The Philip has a power for gain but it is a junk. The RCA is much better but I lost signal once in a while on certain channel. Then I saw this Artec antenna on sale at this site. After reading some reviews about this antenna, I gave it a try. I put the antenna next to my TV at the same location that I put the RCA antenna. I got solid signal all the time. I moved it around and I still didn't lose any signal at all. This antenna is a rock. It's cheaper, looks nicer than the rabit ears antenna, and can receive signal better. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't have it. I ordered 2 more from Meritline to put in other rooms and the result is the same. I'll order more for my relatives as gift.

great antenna especially for the price. my house is surrounded by really tall trees and I've gone through cheapo rca, jensen indoor antennas. bought a cool looking terk antenna with an inline amplifier and this antenna beats it in terms of ease of use and reception. the terk was extremely directional and I had to adjust for each channel. this thing just works

Note only buy this Antenna if your stations are in the UHF(14-62) BAND. IT WILL NOT PICKUP VHF(2-13) Stations!! USE http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx to see what channels and bands your local stations are on at your home. Old Rabbit Ear might work better!

Excellent. I was totally confused about the whole DTV switch over thing so I went out and bought a DTV converter box from Meritline for free (Airlink Unit). I was doing research online and came to find out that with newer TV's, you don't need a converter box at all, just the antenna. I bought this unit and plugged it into my Sony Bravia HDTV and select scan for channels and after 30 minutes of scanning, all the channels came in! I was so surprised it worked so seamlessly. The whole set up process took less than 5 minutes and you get HD contents for free that I am paying $100+ per month with DISH network. So gonna try this on my Dell TV in the bedroom and Panasonic plasma in my living room and if it works out so long DISH network. I was really annoyed with the DTV switch over but now I think it's the best thing since sliced bread!! Thanks Obama.

Really nice and convenient - even though this looks like a very basic piece of equipment, this serves the job well. Catches a lot of digital channels and the HD TV reception for ABC HD/Fox2 HD etc... is spectacular

Fantastic product. Simple 5 minute set up to my Sony LCD TV and did search channel and all the channels just automatically added. The digital channels looks even better than what I receive on DISH!! And it's all free. Thinking of cancelling DISH now and save myself $100/month.

I received it yesterday and hooked it up with my DTV box. I was surprised that it found 20 channels in East Brunswick, NJ. Out of these around 12 channels are english channels. ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, NJN etc all are available now. I am really satisfied with this tiny antenna.

This antenna is amazing. We live in a marginal area, approximately 60 miles from each of two broadcasting cities, and this antenna pulled in more stations more clearly than any of the more sophisticated electronic antennae (and at about 1/3 the price). I'd highly recommend it to everyone. At that price, what have you got to lose?

For indoor antenna, there are so many variables will affect power of reception such as thickness of wall, construction material, number of walls and windows, etc. It won't be surprised for the same antenna to pickup more channels in one location than the other location. Some useful information is available at http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/info.aspx?page=indoor for indoor antenna (this website is recommended by www.dtv2009.gov).

The BEST little antenna for HDTV. For those who say it does not work, have a little patience. Go to the signal quality monitor setup of your HDTV or DTV tuner box, adjust the antenna until you get 60% signal strength, then scan the channels.

I got mine two weeks ago and you get what you pay for. It has a very weak signal and doesn't give a clear picture on any channel. I thought being HDTV would make the picture come in better, but that was definatly not the case. Save your money and get a better product. This is the first time i have ever had to write a negative review for anything i have bought off the web. I hate to do it, but i feel compeled to let the buyer know. Wouldn't let me give 0 stars!!!

For how many channels can be picked up, it is all about antenna's direction and location. Pointing antenna to different direction to test the receiption and for sure you will get better signals when you place the antenna near the windows. If more information about antenna is needed, please check FCC official website at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/dtvantennas.html.

My roommate and I put this in our window, where our POWERED HDTV antenna got NOTHING (and it still gets nothing when on the roof), and we now get ALL the channels just fine! WAY worth the money, especially since it's only half of what we paid for the other WITH an employee discount!

An inexpensive solution. My television recieved no signals with no antenna. With this product we pulled all of the local DTV signals and numerous analog stations. It may not be the best or fanciest, but it got the job done for little cost in my city where signals are relatively strong. Received product in under a week from ordering.

This product is a waste of money! I live less than 7 miles from TV towers and all I got was signals coming in and out. Buyer Beware!I fell for the marketing pitch. This is cardboard and plastic with a coax cable connected to it.

For a simple design, it works surprisingly well (in the Philly area about 9 miles from the towers). It is much better than my existing rabbit ears or amplified UHF-VHF antennas, pulling in even WHYY (not yet broadcasting at full power). However, further away at about 33 miles, it does not pull in many stations and my rabbit ears do a much better job. Highly recommended if you live reasonably close to the towers. Sergiy--How did you conclude that no one had time to order, receive and test the antenna? I ordered it (with the Airlink101 converter box) on 3/6, shipped 3/9, received 3/13.
