It DOES test 9v batteries - on the side are two round contacts that you match up to those on the battery. I don't have this specific model but one identical to it that I purchased years ago and I love it.

Meritline.com Verified Buyer Not as accurate as i would like, the reader needle bounces a lot. You should get one that also does 9v, this does not have this feature.

I had trouble getting it to work accurately at first but eventually it worked as promised. Just be patient. You need to play with it a few times before getting it to work properly.

Meritline.com Verified Buyer This mini battery tester had all the promise and none of the charm it should have had. I needed a quick reliable way to check my batteries on location, but this didn't even come close to working properly. I unwrapped the package, tested several AA, AAA & 9v batts I knew to be ok. This read 2 AA's, then stopped working. The 9v's showed low when they should have read good. I chucked the mini tester after verifying the batts with my multimeter.
