Description & Specs

Macro Extension Tube for Canon, Black

    Manufacturer Part # 1

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens father away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.
This Macro Extention Tube is a Set of 3 optical tubes 9mm, 16mm, 30mm and male and female adapters. The tubes can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. 8 combinations are possible!

    Note:
  • When using extension tubes the lens will not focus to infinity. The focus range will be greatly limited to a very close focusing distance.
  • There is light fall off when using any extension tube, sometimes the equivalent of 3 f-stops of light is lost when using multiple extension tubes together. This light lost can affect the camera's ability to auto focus. Manual focusing is recommended should the lens begin to "hunt" (not lock onto the subject).
  • This Auto Extension Tubes are not auto focus compatible with Canon EF-S lenses .You need to use manual focus and manual exposure while shooting.

  • Comes in 5 sections:
  • Bayonet ring mounting to lens
  • 9mm threaded tube (Tube 1)
  • 16mm threaded tube (Tube 2)
  • 30mm threaded tube (Tube 3)
  • Bayonet ring mounting to camera body

  • How to remove tube from lens:

These little gems do just what they're supposed to do. They are metal, not plastic and no, they don't allow auto focus or any auto lens functions. When doing close up work one should do manual adjustments for best results, anyway. They are delicate and have screw threads for the extensions mounted between the adapters so extra care needs to be taken when changing the length or handling. For the money, they'll work better than closeup filters. I'm using them to copy slides and old negatives. Much better quality than a slide scanner -and cheaper!

I haven't purchased these tubes, but from the pictures there doesn't appear to be any electrical contacts for the lens to communicate with the camera. Again, I don't have this particular set so I may be wrong. It just looks that way to me. I don't think these tubes will allow autofocusing on any camera no matter the lens. That being said, most people that use extension tubes use manual focus anyway and brand-name ones cost over $100 USD. The only problem is that most Canon lenses are also auto-aperture, meaning you'll be shooting the lens "wide-open" no matter what you do. Say good bye to depth of field!

Tube is made completely of plastic and it uses a different lens release button than the normal Canon style, but for ten bucks you can't beat the price. It works fine. Don't know how long it will last. If I get a couple hundred shots out of it, it was worth the money.

This was absolutely perfect for my needs. If you read the reviews, you will know that it has absolutely NO communication with an EF-S compatible camera (I have a T3i). You'll see F-stop settings like "F000" and so forth...you will have to do everything manually. I had to come back to the Meritline site to find out how to remove it from the lens, but that worked just fine. Basically, you can get some extreme super close-up shots with this tube (jewelry, etc.) provided you are ready to do all settings yourself, completely manually. You'd probably want to do this anyway with extreme close-up/macro work!
