Ordered two of these, one DOA but re-soldered one of the two battery leads myself to make it work, so if yours is DOA open it up and check the factory solder job. Found out there are additional solder tabs on the driver inside that provide OTHER options for LED behavior, so this light can apparently be "modded" for other modes by exploring other combinations of soldering the battery leads to the internal switch. Only average build quality--but BRIGHT, FOCUSABLE LONG-THROW (somewhat blue) LED. Give it 3 stars for build quality, 4 stars for brightness/focus, 5 stars for overall value...so I'm settling in at 4 stars overall. Glad I bought two of these on sale.

I have bought a bunch of these. First one was so fantastic, I gave it to a friend who was heading to Africa. I bought 4 more. They have been sent to a friend in Joplin Mo. These are just the most awesome lights. No need for a handheld flashlight. You can see right where you are working. The hinge is very sturdy and stays at the angle it is set at. Get the rechargeable batteries and you are all set.

Am impressed with the extreme brightness of light on high mode. Low light mode is adequate for much nighttime use. Also like the uniform light emitted at max zoom out position, about a 50 degree angle flood, which can be narrowed easily with push/pull zoom for increased light intensity to a minimum of about a 5 to 7 degree angle concentrated beam. Max light setting draws about 750 milliamps, while low setting uses about 150 mA giving about half the light for longer battery life. Flashing high mode is very intense strobe light effect, but should be visible for miles.

This Cree Zoom Headlamp is the brightest I've EVER seen. I've had several other types, but none come close to this. The build quality on mine (I've ordered six of this model) has been excellent. They take three AAA batteries (not supplied) which are inserted into the light base and add very little weight. The zoom is very smooth and moves from a nice flood to a powerfully focused beam. This little light is totally incredible.

One of the best headlamps I've owned, and I've bought quite a few different models and variations. This Cree bulb is very bright and the focus feature is handy. The overall build quality of the housing is better than most of the other headlamps available on Meritline. The only gripe I have with this headlamp is how quickly it devours batteries. I use Eneloop rechargeable batteries (the best) and I only get about 2 hours of usage out of them.

I ordered two of these lamps, on the strength of Meritline's excellent past service, and the CREE name. I have NOT been disappointed. Turning this thing on is like lighting up a bright day. Use as a spotlight is somewhat limited, only because I can't get a high enough down-angle on the beam to really illuminate distant objects. And, since I always were wide-brimmed hats, the light tends to glance off the underside of the hat, causing a little "light confusion". But it's the best, most powerful lamp I've found, and in a great little package. Now if I were only ten feet tall. HMMM, maybe a broomstick stuffed down in my shirt. Stilts?

I purchased four of these based upon the CREE LED usage. I found them to be very bright. On high power (160 lumen) the battery consumption is high but not higher than expected. I have had no difficulty with the item but am excited to read that there are other possible "modes" since I have no use for the strobe mode. However, one of them I purchased for my son who does ride his bike extensively.
