This is my first optical mouse. I bought it for my netbook. I try to limit buying battery powered peripherals due to fears of battery failure. But this one works very well. I am surprised how much I like it. When you store the USB receiver in the mouse it shuts off the power, prolonging battery life.

I've been unable to get this mouse working on a DELL laptop which is running on WINDOWS XP. Is there a driver required? There was no software packaged with the mouse.

Not nearly as good as my Logitech V220 wireless mouse. The Microsoft mouse locks up frequently and has to be manually reset with a button on the USB connector or the mouse itself.
