    While the price was decent it effectively was a $15 waste of money. The reel wont cast. You might as well tie some fishing line on a stick because the furthest you can cast is however far you can unspool your line & throw your bait. The only improvement over a stick is the (hopeful) lack of rigidity in the rod vs the stick & the ability to reel it in. It does reel in adequately. The pen rod is smaller than I anticipated based on the pictures shown, however, that shouldnt qualify the product for a 1 star. The 1 star is due to the inability to utilize the product for fishing. This is essentially an extendable cane pole w/ the ability to reel in your catch. I wouldnt recommend this product for anyone that wants anything more than that. I bought it w/ the intent of using the pole for a lightweight & low profile fishing apparatus to use on hiking trips. I think i'll be using it for nothing more than ice fishing for gills. The 'tackle' and 'fishing line' were horrendous & worthless.

    Got these on sale for half the usual price. Took them out of the packaging yesterday and set them up. I'm not really a fisherman but these function adequately. It came with the rod, reel, and a tiny "tackle kit" of two (very rusty) hooks, two floats, two plastic-coated lead weights, and some flimsy rubber "bait." There are no instructions, but you have to mount the reel to the rod with a little thumbscrew. When the reel is attached, the "pen cap" lid doesn't fit back on. The full extended length of the rod is about 40 inches. However, the kids absolutely loved it, and even caught a few crayfish from a local pond. So I guess this one was a take-a-chance winner we'll use again next year.
