I got this for a friend as a stocking stuffer. It failed within a week. I put it in sun light and the solar cell attempted to charge the battery but with no success. Being an EE, I took it apart to determine what was going on. The solar cell was charging the battery but the battery was only charging to a little over half it's rated voltage. I did measurements on the solar cell and it was putting out the required voltage and current to get the job done but the battery appeared to have an internal failure. In reading the reviews, this appears to be a common problem. I don't recommend spending any amount of money on this unit. One should note that the price has dropped from $3.99 to $1.99 which suggests Meritline knows there is a problem and is dumping stock.

Solar powered? I guess not! After 2 days of use the battery ran out (no problem with that) but then I left it for 2 whole days under sunlight for the battery to recharge, but no sir, it's still off. Now, its been in front of my window for nearly a week and a half where it can get sunlight for 10 hours each day and its still not working. This is the same for all three of them. If it had been just one, I would have said it was a bad connection or something, but all three is just too much to be a coincidence.

Well it turns out that a few flashlights from meritline work and this one and a other solar charged light are the ones. Mind you,the lights store far less of a charge over time and by time I mean a few weeks but good lights for a little while and a better showing then the 3&4 "aaa" led flashlight that are almost aways DOE from Meritline and not worth shipping back even if merit would answer a E-mail and replace them. So far it's been about 50-50 with merit-stuff that works,works OK and some stuff just showed up broken. The funniest was the $1.00 item with shipping,shipped (mailed) from hong-kong/china that needed to be signed for, who's going to steal a 88cent item from meritline? Oh yeah, it was broken-DOA too!

Only 2 worked on arrival, one died after one day, third still working but I don't depend on it. Junk.
