This radio is legal in the USA. It can be programmed for many legal frequencies depending on your license. I can be used on the 2m and 440 ham bands with a ham license. I can be used for fire and public service freqs with the proper license. It can be used on the FRS and GMRS frequencies.

I'm a licensed operator. The radio is perfectly legal to sell. Great features. Exceptionally low price. Really a cool little xcvr.But it's illegal to transmit on the ham bands without at least an fcc tech class license. You can listen all day and enjoy this set. If you're a ham, it's a cool little HT to own.

Pretty awesome 2m/440cm HT. Knocking off one star for the belt clip -- ordered two of them and with both of them, the screw designed to hold the belt clip to the device was too short and so there's no workable clip. Kind of annoying but not a major problem.

Works very good. Meets all specs. Takes time to program all the functions for advanced operations but works as well as the big name products and has features that they don't. I am a licensed Amateur raadio operator for over 30 years and a RF communications tech for over 40 years.

These radios require an FCC License for use in the USA. They are type accepted for use on Amateur Radio Band (requires Technican Class or higher license) or GMRS (requires FCC Commercial License). These units are NOT LEGAL on full power for use on FRS because there is a 1/2 WATT (500Mw) power limit for use on FRS frequiences. Operation without an FCC license can subject you to severe penalties/fines up to $10,000 for each occurance.
