Simple, easy and good quality capture. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to set it up, but once I got the setting correct, I was capturing my old camcorder videos and saving them as avi files. There are many formats to save to. If you want good steady captures, be sure you have decent processing power. A great deal. 4 stars because the software did not load properly and the manual did not help...in broken English.

Works Great (got at $12.99)! ~ I'm an old VCR guy (still) and have been able to convert old family videos (grand parents 80th B'days from early 1990's) to digital and now have for all my family to see on YouTube. ~ This is Perfect for the job! ~ Software was a little tricky to figure out at first but once I got it down, all it takes is time to record. ~ Now converting other family (brother's and sister's) stuff for them.

This device produces a high quality picture that I record from my HD DVR when using a quality SVideo cable (not the cheap one from Meritline). After recording I use Handbrake (freeware) to shrink it down 10x with little degradation. I then can watch it on my Kindle. Strongly recommend.

*follow-up to previous review today* while monitoring my cable box channel the viewing on my computer is fine however when I switch to record mode the view from this device is scrambled but it is recording and displays fine on playback. Don't be alarmed or think it's not working. If your device view is scrambled on record, test a sample playback and rest easy. After discovering to use only USB20 ports with this device for drivers stay loaded I bought a second device for my other Cablebox-DVD and keep both working 24/7 and just record when wanted.

I only use the capture feature on this device to get recorded files from my Cablebox-DVR to my computer. I have other software to convert the *.mpg files to DVD's. The problem I had was keeping the driver loaded in my Windows 7 x64 bit system. This is a USB20 device. I discovered this device does not like backward compatible USB30 ports. Be sure to use this device on a USB20 port and the driver stays loaded and trouble free capture. Good Luck.

The hardware did not last more that a few weeks. I installed the software on a Dell Latitude D620 laptop. I had success with a Magnovox ZV427MG9 combo unit for two weeks. One day it crashed my laptop to blue screen. I removed software, drivers and reinstalled per instructions. It no longer recognized the capture device. The output types, like NTSC-M, no longer show in the drop downs. I liked the initial results, but long-term it seems the unit doesn't last. Its fried and harms my computers.

I use this litle tool to grab recorded cartoons for my son and tranfer them to his tablet. You can record the all episode and cut comercials with the software. PERFECT FOR MY NEED!

EZGrabber with SVideo and VGA to 2.0 USB is an easy connect to laptop from VHS/DVD combo Unit. Uploading the software, the documentation is outdated, but user can be intuitive and try it out. Likely will need to search online for what conversion types, MPEG, AVI etc and decide what output is best. NTSC-M is U.S.A. standard. Must play whole video souce to copy, not a copy file!!! The additional software for burning to media like CD or DVD is more precise. If you're copying to hardrive or flash then the EZGrabber application is pretty simple. Note a DVD or LongDVD copy can be up to 5GB space for under 2hour movie. I've been using SVCD for my VHS to optimize sound and get average video for computer device viewing. The output is still .MPG, but lower resolution video, 1.5GB file. If you choose MP4, beware its very small .AVI file half-GB, but works with small phones, hand-help MP4 viewers.

Great product, if you can load the proper drivers and software. I downloaded driver and software from ttp://www.mygica.com/download.asp?id=179 and it worked great. I have Windows 7 on my machine and it is compatible. Picture/Video quality is pretty good. Nifty little gadget to convert old home videos.
