Oh what ignorant people there are out there. People, this is not a real helicopter. The rear rotor only turns when you command forward or rearward flight (by pitching the craft forward or backwards. The torque is countered by the counter-rotating main blades so no (sideways) tail-rotor is required. Since there is no swashplate on the main rotor blades and they are not reticulated, that's why the rear prop is necessary. This all keeps the cost to a fraction of what a real helicopter would cost. There are not nearly as many moving parts, no servos, only electrically controlled motors. It doesn’t control the same way as a real helicopter (more like a cross between an airplane and a helicopter) but it’s still plenty fun to fly. Know what you are buying before you stupidly return it for working exactly as it’s supposed to. By the way, this is also not IR controlled but RF.

ts, there is nothing wrong with your helicopter; the rear rotor only turns during forward and reverse flight. Turns left and right are produced with the main rotors. You can verify this by adjusting the power to still be on the ground then push forward or reverse on the right controler.

This things awsome flies great right out of the box. I crashed it a alot before having to buy replacement parts. Replacement parts are cheap and easy to find. This is a great heli to lean on before spending big bucks on a high tech one. You will be impreased with the size and power of this thing. Its lots of fun take it slow master the controls and have fun.

I have now owned three Double Horse helicopters from Meritline. One of the reviewers is wrong, there are trims on this helicopter but they don't compensate for the drift. Be sure to have the heli flat when you turn it on so the gyros set up right. Having said that, I do agree that my Double Horses don't sound or respond anything like the videos on Meritline. Those heli spin up strong, the heading lock is solid, and respond rapidly to cyclic inputs. All three of mine are weak, poorly balanced, slip in power rotor, and are not controlled by TX unit. Where can I buy those Heli's on the videos at Meritline? I want one of those!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't maneuver this helicopter. Impressive to look at, easy enough to understand. The vehicle doesn't respond to the controls. New batteries, fully charged, and it won't respond. Try this is a very, very large grass field because it will fly off on it's own.

First 9053 RMA'd (thanks Meritline!) after speed controller died after 3 minutes. Since then, I've had 50 hours flying heli's... so I'm no longer a beginner on heli's. This unit was perfect, powered up, spun (trim couldn't be set) due to slipping main rotor. Lift was poor. Small tail rotor is TOO SMALL to provide FORWARD/REVERSE thrust. Was completely unable to maneuver nose over/tail back. Just lift, spin, and rudder... no front/back. "REMOTE CONTROL" is therefore "REMOTE" since there is NO "CONTROL". YouTube videos on "Volitation Heli" showed expensive mods to get to fly. Why spend SO MUCH time making such a TECHNOLOGY RICH craft and then forget the basics? Who cares if it has a Gyro if you can't fly it.

Arrived with the rear blade rotor non-functional. It would not spin, therefore the helicopter would not fly. As well, the instruction said it needed "180 minutes" of charging. Yet about 10 minutes after I plugged it in, the green "charged" light lit indicating it was charged. However, we powered it up and the blades barely turned, so seemingly the charger is bad as well. Charged it up all night, and the next day the rotors turned fine, except the rear still would not turn. Very disappointed.

Good Heli for the Money and as entry level RC Chopper,...once NEW upgraded blades where installed,...This thing has held up aftep dropping like a brick after about a 1 second signal loss,...and several times after turning a little hard,..has held up well,...canopy broken but patched up for now till I order new one,...even though the New Blades have only 1/2 gram more material in them,..they have been through FAR more abuse then the original blades coul;d ever take,...Pretty tough Heli!!

Ive been flying gas and electric helis for a while now, I know how they work. When the unit is hovering or when I spool up the main rotors while holding the skids in my hand the tail rotor wont work 90 % of the time when commanded to an elevator function moving the right stick up and down. I know the tail prop only turns when the mains are turning. Thanks, still waiting for an rma response

Just received in good condition, charged batt and flew a few inches off the ground, noticed tail rotor only turns every once in a while when commanded. looked it over and everything looked OK, still only spins about 10% of the time, sending back

Love these helicopters I have several. Move the battery forward as far as the wires allow, turn the lower rotor blade mount upsidedown, this gives more blade clearance. Do not fly in the wind! For the money you will have a blast. Be sure to buy extra blades when you order the copter. Plan on buying another you will crash your first and buying a second one is cheaper before you get the hang of flying them.

I have bought several of these. It will take about 3 of these before you can fly one that will not crash. Type in google 9053 and it will have some tips on making this fly better. Flip the bottom rotor upside down according to directions on the internet. Do the tail rotor upgrade. These 2 things will increase your flying time and sucess of not crashing it. If this thing drops out of the air for no reason it is because you have crashed it before and the circuit board is bad.

I got my helicopter yesterday and today it was my first flight lesson. Very impressed by the quality. Even with no RC helicopter experience I was able to squeak a couple 20 to 30 second flights without freaking out and crashing. Watch the video - it helps a lot. Haveing an indoor area would be a great help in learning to fly as it doesn't take much wind for this thing to drift away when in a hover. That when I paniced and crashed. Only thing I wish I had bought a few extra blade sets with it as I'm sure I will snap them and it would suck with Meritlines slow shipping to be grounded that long.

This helicopter is large & sturdy. Forward thrust is quite weak. Try adding a light oil (Office Depot oil for paper shredder) to the plastic & metal gears. This will reduce the wear & tears and friction. Therefore, you will get longer lasting gears and longer flight time due to less energy expenditure due to reduce friction. Did a search on googles to do modification on the helicopter, the process looks time consuming. Meritline has the Double Horse 9053 slightly cheaper than amazon.com. Overall, I am happy with this helicopter but I just purchased the "Syma S033G 3.5 Channel 700mm Large RC Helicopter Ready to Fly" on Amazon for the same price as this "Double Horse 9058" but my new helicopter has a lot stronger thrust and more stable without any modification. For all the older reviews, may be new modifications were done. My helicopter worked great. No complains here. Just purchased extra battery from amazon so that I can have longer flight time with this Double Horse 9053.

Thank goodness, I thought it was me. This heli arrived quickly and was BEAUTIFUL, a lot of technology for VERY cheap. Read every instruction (there are two battery cords, one to charge, the other to run the rotors). I'd done RC about 10 years ago, a little rusty so I went slow. Hovered inside without problem. Outside got to about 12 feet, gyros went, started spinning... I set it back down (*no crash*) and now won't power up. Circuit board just flashes little red light and won't turn rotors. Asked for RMA. Think the board shorted out or went bad after about 5 minutes of use. Beautiful product, wished it works... I'll write another review if RMA'ed sucessfully. I want to try this thing and make it fly! Must have gotten a bad board.

I bought it about 2 weeks. It works really good. It can flies full function. I bought 1 blade extra, 1 landing skid, and 1 balance bar for in case it crash. I have one before, but different brand and it easy to broken blade and landing skid. Now with the new one, I really like it.
