I am a system [control]engineer. This will be my last review, because of 1000 character limit. To do a partial review; is inaccurate. Unprofessional. Comprehensively deceptive. I only have space to say unit is marginal ONLY because of switch, like 90% of these Chinese products. (They don't use enough silver?) I would tell you several impressive design features making it among best, [if it had a good switch], if space permitted, and exactly how switch is bad and how I accidentally got it to work for me.

Just wanted to add that all you need to do is just put the tip into a plug,point the tip at a wire,junction box, or switch. Its that easy to use.Point it at what you want to know is live and it lights up if it has power and won't if it's not live. Its that easy.

Works good, great price,easy to use. This is a great tool to easily test for live wires,plugs,or anywhere you need to know if something is live.will save you many shocks for just a few bucks can't go wrong.

Does not fit the US power outlet, the tip is slightly thicker than the slot and so you cannot insert it. Also, the sensitivity is not adjustable and is not sensitive enough to detect power when you take the tip as close as you can to the power outlet. On testing against a two wire cable that powers a table fan, I noticed that the sensor picked up the power on the one strand that carried the power, on the other strand it did not detect power (which is correct but also shows the limited sensitivity of the device given that the two strands were practically right next to each other).

The limited sensitivity noted above could be useful. I have a more expensive, and much more sensitive, unit that can give a false positive from a dead cable that just crosses a live cable. The lack of sensitivity in this one could help you find a single live cable in a bundle or even tell you which side of a cable is hot. I just worry that this unit might not have enough sensitivity to detect voltage if you don't happen to get the tip right next to the conductor. Limited usefulness and questionable safety.
