Philips DVD+R Dual Layer (DL) 8X White Inkjet Hub Printable Double Layer DVD Plus R Blank Media Discs (DR8I8B50P/17) in 50 Pack Cake Box

Manufacturer Part # DR8I8B50P/17

DVD+R Double Layer!
The double-layer DVD+R DL medium is the newest technology breakthrough in optical discs. The advanced Philips single-sided, double-layer disc has an amazing 8.5GB of storage capacity, enough for up to four hours of DVD-quality video, 16 hours of VHS-quality video, or over 120 hours of MP3 audio. It is compatible with all current DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives as well as new DVD+R DL drives. It is ideal for virtually any business or household application.

Double-layer technology allows materials to be either read or recorded on one layer without affecting data on the other layer. An important advantage of the double-layer configuration is convenience. It allows users to read, write or view nearly twice the amount of data than with currently popular single-layer 4.7GB DVD discs without having to flip sides or change discs.

Extremely poor batch of media. I have had at least 12 discs either fail to close or fail to verify. That may explain why they were so inexpensive!

I have burned hundreds of these discs. Pioneer 112 drive. I have the same success rate as with verbatims. I'll get a couple per spindle that will fail verification. for those above that have had problems you are most likely burning too fast or you did not set your layer break correctly in your burning software. Never burn any CDR or DVDR at rated speed. if you buy 8x burn at 2.4x, 4x or 6x. I burn at 4x. I verify every disc. at 4X it will take aproximately 1 hour per disc. (about 40 minutes to burn 18 minutes to verify) Don't try to rush them, its 8GB and verify will tell you right now if disc is good. no surprises later. media is like anything else, manufacture always stretch ratings a little. back off on burn speed a little and you will have much greater success. I use epson RX680 to print on these and they look very good. Again, I like them better than the industry giant verbatim. First these have a 22mm center hub so you can print better looking label, more like factory disc. The

Out of a stack of 50, about 10% have been coasters. My burner has the latest firmware so I'm not sure what the issue is.

I ordered these as a trial since the usual discs I buy were out of stock. (PiData) I have two newer HP burners and, so far, these discs perform terribly. I managed to successfully burn 2 out of 8 and only with a lot of tinkering with the burn speed after each 'coaster.' With this kind of yield, each successful burn cost me $3.06. With the PiData discs, I only had 2 bad out of 125 attempts. If you use HP burners, stay away from the Philips brand.

I purchased a spindle of Philips branded blanks and, after having used a third of the spindle, the recordable layer began bubbling up and peeling off. I tried to interest Philips customer service in the problem -- to supply them with the batch number -- and they showed not the slightest concern. I've never had a problem with any other brand after years of use and thousands of disks.

First time to try. Ordered because of pricing. So far 4 out of 8 have been duds. Some will burn but will not play. Others will not burn but give a burn failure message. If they don't improve after these 8, I will not order Philips again. I have used 2 other brands without a single failure. Cfheaper is not better if quality is not good.

It burns fine but NOT at 8X. The maximum Nero 9 or any software recognizes on this DVD is 2.4X. If you don't mind the long burn time, this is alright.

This Philips DVD+R Dual Layer (DL) 8X White Inkjet dobule layer DVD is in very high good quality, and I have no problem to burn and print dobule layer video for more than 15 of them. They are all doing good and the printing surface on the DVD is also very good as well. I do print the graphic and photo on these DVD, and they all look good and shape. Recommened.

First 5 discs were coasters(burned but did not VERIFY). This is the 2nd spindle of these discs I have bought from Meritline, and I had the exact same problems last time. The first few discs were garbage. Eventually I found that I could burn and VERIFY the discs, but only if I burn at 4X. Very expensive (both cost and time wise) to have to screw around with this stuff. I have posted a similar review for this product before, and I noticed that Meritline removed the review, I'm assuming because it was negative, so hopefully this truthful review will help someone before Meritline decides to take it down again.

Thought from the reviews here they could be pretty solid. So far, 50% have failed. Also, they heat up a lot, which is something I wasn't expecting at all.

Only 1 out of 5 of the DVD's would write. All other have an error of formatt problems.

Never used Philips Dual Layer before and was surprised. I have not had one bad disc at all. I have used many dual layer brands and always had some coasters accept for Verbatum which is very expensive. If the Philips keep performing well I will continue to buy them.
