Meritline.com Verified Buyer This lantern is shorter than item 248-296-001. Both lanterns are comparable lighting strength. This one is slightly dimmer and so doesn't need the filtering that the other has. Both have a have a variable dimmer which is why I bought them. The quality of in this light is better than the other. The switch is smooth and not loose like the other. And the design seems to be more rugged. I like them both though this one is a lot more efficient than any of the other inexpensive lanterns sold here, i.e. 188-946-001, and 248-772-001 (which is not very bright). This lantern will work with the weakest batteries.
