Meritline.com Verified Buyer I bought this item expecting a CAT 5 Splitter/Joiner like the description says. A cat 5 splitter and joiner, splits the 8 wires into 2 ports: port #1 - wires 1,2,3,6 port #2 - wires 4,5,7,8 This item simply sends all 8 wires to both ports making it worthless... The idea behinf a cat 5 splitter/joiner is to get 2 SEPARATE 100Mbit connections onto a single CAT5 cable. (100mbit only needs 4 wires, Gigabit needs all 8 wires) As long as you use a splitter/joiner on each end you get 2 connections on a single cat 5. I use splitters and joiners extensively to maximize my wired cat 5 runs where it is difficult to add new lines. These real splitters joiners cost ~$7-8 usually, so this would be a good deal if they worked! I would recommend MeritLine to add some wording stating that all 8 wires are ported to both jacks to make this clear!

Meritline.com Verified Buyer Just ordered and surprised to see how some people purchased without reading description where it clearly said 'it does not replace a hub' and they still expected it to work as a hub and complained that only one port works. I just want to tell them that if only one port works then you should give it positive feedback because that's the way it is supposed to work. If you want both port to work at a time, then you need a hub or switch that will cost you fifty times more than this little splitter. Please don't rate something negatively as a result of your own ignorance.

You CANNOT split a LAN cable into two LAN cables and expect both devices to function at the same time. This causes MILLIONS of traffic collisions and both devices will be useless while connected to the same cable. If you are looking to use two network devices on 1 cable, then you NEED A SWITCH or HUB, but HUBs suck. Just buy a switch. Don't review something negatively just because you are ignorant. The ONLY useful purposes are A)you will only use one device a time and don't wish to keep sharing one cable. B)you don't have a long enough network cable and need to join two cables together.

This splitter does not replace a hub! it's up there in RED. people don't read before they jump the gun. This means you can only use one port a time!
