The volume control dial has a deadzone, but otherwise, this is basically just two physical toggle switches and definitely more worth your time to buy this than to build it yourself from parts. It's great for speakers that don't come with a control unit for volume, mute and an easily accesible headphone jack

This is exactly what I was looking for, and it's a pretty decent price. I was looking for something with a long cord so that it would reach the back of my computer on the floor.

The Good: Well the quality is better than I expected. When I say quality I mean sound quality. I sort of expect a noticeable hit in sound quality but I didn't actually notice any. Build quality I cant say since I wont be using it past the 5 minutes it took for me to set it up. The Bad: The 3 audio jacks are right next to one another. About 1/2" apart this made nothing I own fit into the switch! My regular sized cable to hook up the speakers fit in the center and I was just barely able to fit my microphone cable in. The larger headphone cable? No way it will fit in there even if I wanted to force it and risk damaging something. This single error makes this product useless. So I guess its back to DIY for me. Shame I think this product had potential if it was otherwise better designed.

There seems to be internal connection problems with this device. When the switch is set to output to the speakers, the right channel of the speakers and the left channel of the headphones puts out sound simultaneously. When set to output to the headphones, both channels of the headphones then put out sound properly. Also, the connectors are positioned really close together, and it's impossible to fit larger 3.5mm plugs into the unit at the same time. Fortunately, it's inexpensive. If it didn't have internal wiring problems, it'd easily get 4 or 5 stars. As is, I'll give it 1.5 out of 5.
