As promised a follow up from last year. I'm dropping my rating from 5 to 2. Problems encountered: Loose at the ball joint - my wife's Akron could barely hold up her phone after 6 weeks, and after a couple months it was freely flopping around. After about 9mos my mount began exhibiting the same problem. What I have done (and is still working) is to place a small amount of #000 steel wool into the socket, then push the ball back in. It provides the missing friction needed to hold the grip vertical. Suction cup - in my SUV, it comes off at least once a month. More so during extremes of temperature. Usually reclamping is all you need, but if it falls off and hits the floor the tacky material becomes loaded with dirt and fuzz, requiring a wash/dry period. My wife's never stays put. We think the dash just has too many curves for the cup to adhere too for any length of time. We're talking gentle curves too. Skip this product.

I really liked this mount at first. Unlike with other reviews, mine didn't have the problem where the arm came loose. Mine had a problem where the suction would no longer hold the mount to the dash. The suction was strong at first. It even left a permanent ring on my dash. :\ But after a couple of months in place, it came loose and now won't hold hardly at all.

I bought this mainly to use my phone as a navigation device. It failed within the first week due to the loose ball most other reviews have mentioned. As it turns out, my LG Optimus Elite overheats quickly and shuts down, so no great loss and I didn't seek a replacement for the mount. At least I was able to stick the phone between the car's vent slats to keep it cool; the phone mount remains useless. Two stars is pretty damn generous.

Excellent! I attached this to my dash 6 weeks ago, and it show no signs of coming lose. It grips my phone tightly even in rough terrain. One the down side, it is not wide enough to hold my Nuvi 1450 which is something like a 5" screen.

I have to agree with several of the other reviews of this product. Shortly after receiving the item the ball joint that supports the phone bracket became very loose/floppy. I've opted to give it another try. I'm asking for a replacement since I would prefer not glueing the pieces and having to keep the phone in one position...kind of defeats the purpose of what the item is supposed to be able to do. I will give an update once I've had time with the replacement.

I have purchased three Arkon mounts. Two for the car, and one as a bedside holder for quick access to my phone. There are two inherent problems with their products, although the concept is brilliant. First, like other reviewers have stated, the ball joint gets loose quickly. Particularly if you live somewhere hot like I do. You either have to use some sort of glue or double sided take to get it to stay in place (or zip ties). The other issue is that the spring load causes stress on the stationary side of the holder causing it to break. Conceptually, they are great. In practice, they simply don't hold up. I had to replace the mount in my car for my iPhone, and the one I use for my Android I had to modify and use the dash for extra support.

After 2 weeks the mount started getting floppy and would not hold my Samsung Galaxy anymore. The problem is located at the ball joint like the other user had. I am going to consider gluing this in place where I want it. Not sure if I would recommend this item when I would have initially.

Well based on the good reviews I was looking forward to using this product. Unfortunately within days after installation both of these mounts (ordered 2) started getting floppy and would not hold my iPhone up. The problem is located at the ball joint. I finally gave up and super glued the ball joint in place where I wanted it. This same problem happened on both of the units I ordered so it seems this is a design flaw. I would not recommend this item.

Awesome product! For a reasonable price, this product performs extremely well. The suction grip is extremely strong and stable and the arm stays in position well also. This unit is not as clunky looking as most comparable devices are either. I've been using it for a couple of months now and it is working out great.

Impressed! Ordered two. One for a sedan the other for an SUV. They stick fast to your dashboard even though it has a texture. Low profile and 360 swivel head are awesome. Nice to be able to easily turn your phone towards the passenger. Clip holds my iPhone 4s securely without any creeping even bouncing over potholes in the SUV. Tips: dashboard must be clean and dry. Provided is an alcohol wipe to clean your mounting location. Wait until it fully dries or cup will not adhere! Suction cup also won't bridge much of a curve in the dash, so be sure the spot you pick can be fully covered by the cup. Time will tell though on the longevity of the tacky suction cup. The material reminds me of those whacky-wall walkers which are dust magnets and then quickly lose their tack, even when washed. Will try and write a follow up in a few months.
