It is very bright and came in a really nice box. It can function on a single AA cell by removing the back housing and reinstalling the tail cap that contains the switch. In either configuration the housing is too short because when you tighten the switch part it fails to light up, so your left with a loose fit in order to allow it to work. It is a pity because it is otherwise a very nice flashlight. So this gets 3 stars
