    SDXC Standard

    What is the SDXC standard?

The SDXC standard is the newest SD standard. It supports memory capacities above 32GB up to 2TB. Devices (cameras, video cameras, computers, etc.) that are compliant to the SD Physical Layer and File System 3.00 version specs can support SDXC memory cards as well as SDHC memory cards and SD memory cards.

Is the SDXC standard compatible with existing SD devices?

Existing SD devices and SDHC devices are not be compatible with new SDXC memory cards, but existing SD memory cards and SDHC memory cards will still continue to be offered by card manufacturers for the foreseeable future. Existing SD memory cards and SDHC memory cards will work in SDXC devices.

How does the SDXC standard change or improve devices?

The SDXC standard changes and improves how much the device can do. The faster bus speeds will enable improvements like professional-level recording in compact consumer camcorders and exponentially increase the number of frames shot in a second with SDXC cameras. With an SDXC slot, downloaded content can turn car navigation systems into a media center. More music and photos can be stored on a card, allowing for greater freedom and longer playing times. Consumers have the ability to upgrade their devices for years and reduce their electronic waste.

How will the SDXC standard change or improve the user experience?

The SDXC standard is enabling the development of higher performance devices like 3D video cameras that store more multimedia content for better user experience. Faster transfer speeds and up to 2TB storage will enable fast high-def video recording and downloading in any SDXC device. It also provides the capability for improved consecutive photo shooting – 60 frames per second – in SDXC standard-equipped professional cameras. Mobile handset users will be able to download more music, high-def videos and graphic-heavy games more quickly via side-loading with SDXC memory cards.

Before Using Your SDXC Memory Card

SDXC standard-based memory cards and devices (digital cameras, video cameras, laptops, etc.) are now available. As an early adopter of the new SDXC standard, it is important that you understand how to use your new SDXC memory card to its greatest ability.

    Confirm Compatibility

Before inserting your SDXC memory card into your device, confirm the device is compatible with the SDXC standard by locating an SDXC logo on the device or referring to the device's user manual or manufacturer information. Remember:

    Understanding Backwards Compatibility

    Understanding Backwards Compatibility

    • SDXC memory cards must be used only with SDXC devices.
    • SDXC devices can use SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
    • SDHC memory cards can be used with SDHC and SDXC devices.
    • SDHC devices can use both SD and SDHC memory cards.
    • SD devices can only use SD memory cards.

Only Use SDXC Memory Cards in SDXC Devices

SDXC devices are backwards compatible, so they accept SD and SDHC memory cards. SDXC memory cards must only be used with SDXC devices and should never be used in non-compatible devices. If you need to format an SDXC memory card, you can typically format it by using your SDXC device or by using the SD Formatter 3.0 with your computer.

If an SDXC memory card is inserted into a computer or device that does not support the SDXC standard, a message may prompt you to format the card. Do not format the SDXC memory card in a non-compatible device because it will erase the data on the SDXC memory card and format the card for a different file system, making it incompatible with SDXC devices.

    Possible Device Messages

    1. Non-compatible computer

If you accidentally insert your SDXC card into a computer that does not support SDXC (using a direct SD slot or USB reader/writer), the following messages may appear:

    Non-compatible PC

    2. Non-compatible Device

If you accidentally insert your SDXC memory card into an SDHC device that is not compliant, the following messages may appear:

    Non-compatible Host Product

    SDXC Memory Cards for Computers

    • You can access the SDXC card by using an SDXC compatible USB reader or adapter.
    • If you want to use an SDXC card in the SD slot on your computer, you need an SDXC compatible driver for the SD slot.*
    • Contact your computer manufacturer to confirm the SD slot on your computer is compatible with SDXC cards and for availability of the SDXC driver.

Speed, size and price are usually the deciding factor in memory card selection. Often you only get to pick two factors out of the three, but with this card you win three ways! This large capacity 64Gb SDXC card works like a charm in my Canon T2i DSLR camera. I shoot videos at full HD 1080p and this 10 speed card is fast enough to keeps up without skipping a beat. I also shoot photos in RAW + JPEG mode and it seems like I was unable to fill it up. The price is what pushed me over the edge in deciding buying it without giving it second thought. For me, this 64Gb SDXC Class 10 is a winner.

It works, but not as fast as rated, which may be due to the processing speed of my netbook, at least in part. 3.88 GB of photos copied at ~3 MB/s. My primary concern was if this SDXC card would be compatible with my Acer One 722 netbook. I contacted Acer support and I was told it should work just fine, although the card slot is not marked SDXC compatible. When I tried the card in the slot, it worked instantly with the pre-installed drivers. Properties showed the capacity as 61.8 GB (digital, not octal) which is just as I expected. I am happy with it. I paid $36.45 and I feel it is a good deal. No complaints at all. However, I strongly recommend contacting the device manufacturer before buying if the slot is not marked SDXC compatible. If it is not, see if the device will work with a new driver, but NEVER attempt to re-format the card!

Excellent performance right out of the package. Writing speed: 14.4 MByte/s, Reading speed: 16.8 MByte/s. The device (Multiple Card Reader) is suitable for a ReadyBoost cache. The random read speed is 3118 KB/sec. The random write speed is 15002 KB/sec. Jim

Great price for an SDXC card. I tested it with H2testw and the results were Writing speed: 14.7 MByte/s and Reading speed: 8.70 MByte/s, which is good for the write speed but seems a bit slow for read speed. Still, it works fine in my Nikon D7000. Video and stills record with no problem. Good card.

Worked in my sony alpha 65 camera. Had to download an updated driver on my xp computer to read the sdxc format. Windows 7 had the right driver. My existing adapter worked fine. Looks just like a regular drive on my pc. Best price for a class 10.

Didnt realize the card would not be accepted by my camera. Maybe have to download the upgrade for the camera for this card to be recognized. Will do that and then come back again
