Avoid this device. At least without Meritline including a power supply. 2.5 inch hd will not power run on power from this card. I cannot find a power supply that has the same size pin.
At this point it is a waste of money.

I bought this as a part of the kit with the 3.5" hard drive USB 3.0 dock and find that it works fine with my Thinkpad. Transfer range is in the range of 70MBps.
I subsequently purchased a 2.5" USB 3.0 portable hard drive and discovered, as have others, that the card cannot power up the drive. I purchased a Y-cable from another vendor with Type-A USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectors at one end and a micro-B USB 3.0 connector at the other end and have successfully used it with the portable drive to get about 60MBps transfer rates. This has the obvious disadvantage of consuming one of the USB 2.0 ports on the Thinkpad but I have the increased performance!

Disappointed in this. Bought it for my Dell Precision M4500 and it wont work or get recognized even with the drivers from the disk. Has a hole for a power cord but none is supplied. Running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Slides in easy enough but wont lock in so if you go to pull the cord out the card will come out to. Major Fail for Meritline.

Just fine if you ever find the missing cable I'm sure but if your running a WD Passport, won't have enough power to run it. Anything else though. Works like a 2.0. But totally useless without that spare cable. My brother ordered it. It didn't work there, tried it on mine well it worked , just not with the WD Passport or any other 2.5 inch drive. Not one of meritline's better items. Maybe they'd be nice to my brother and send the darn cable.

Not MacBook Pro compatible. There is a port for a power adapter on this but there is no power adapter included nor does Meritline offer one. Searching on the web indicates that this might be a problem as no power is pulled from the MacBook Pro Express card port.
There is no indication ANYWHERE as to what power adapter it might need--not even voltage!

Make sure to install the drivers for this card to work correctly, even in Windows 7.
Once installed, it is working fine. Compact and easy to insert.
If your laptop has Express Card slot, this card is a good way to go.

Excellent - works as described
external HDD runs at about SATA speed
Actual performance as compared to USB 2 drive is about 2.5 - 3 x faster

Future ability priced about the same as previous USB2.0 speed. As a recharge source, 4.5Watts, up from 2.5, for pocket items smart enough to use it all. Can run a chain of hard drives and not be the speed limiting point in the chain.
