I got this adapter for an 2nd older computer that needs to use a SATA drive occasionally, so none of my comments apply to IDE. I wanted to be able to transfer large amounts of data to a portable SATA disk so I don't have to saturate my network for extended periods. It works well, but it doesn't approach the speed potential of USB2 connections. Copying 63GB of data from the internal drive to a SATA drive connected to this interface resulted in transfer speeds of 9.7MB/sec (nearly 2 hours), comparable to common ethernet. It meets my goal of a cheap SATA interface where speed concerns are not paramount, and it allows hot-swapping as well. It's also possible that my computer's own USB interface is the bottleneck. Even though it's slow-ish, I'm giving this product the highest rating because it's so cheap, and it works better than expected. I don't know how long it will last, but in terms of functionality, it's definitely NOT crap. It's just another "inexpensive gem."

Worked on my ibm 60GB notebook drive, DVD Drives. This $5.00+ dollars thing realy work. There is a design flaw, which I shaved the extra platic mid section to get a clean casing. Used Win XP SP2 on it. Afordable and Reliabe.
