The product functions well producing quality sound from my 5.1 speaker system using the analog output. There are some problems loading the drivers on Windows 7, although this is handled by Windows running the program in XP mode. I also like that I can manage the speakers from the provided software or from Windows sound management. One mistake I made was trying to set the sound quality at a level other then 44KHz or 48KHz. It took me a couple of hours to realize the reason I could not hear sound was because I had Windows sound quality set at 96KHz. Over all I'm glad I purchased the USB sound adapter.

This little adapter is a powerful piece of equipment, allowing me to connect my laptop through this and sending SPDIF digital audio to my AVR. Awesome...making me smile from ear to ear.

I have older Compaq Ipaq Computers (made in 2000). They are all in one and have only usb 1. The onboard sound is ok. I wanted to watch movies with ac3 surround. I can do that now. I, also, have dell inspirons with usb2 but with no optical output. With a quick connect I have optical output for movies. It is an excellent product. Oh, I cannot record (in winXP) but for me that is minor. Surround sound in an 11 year old computer is great!

purchased this device to test why laptop audio out port was not playing on compter 5.1 speaker amplified system. Still have same problem- think its the amplified speaker system (decoder/amplifier). Good Item.

I gotta say I did not expect much from this device. I intended to use it as a temporary solution, but I might just keep using this little thing for a while. I have it connected to a laptop, running music thru Foobar/ASIO4ALL, acting as a preamp for my home audio system. There really is something beautiful about the way the CM6206 DAC sounds. Its main specs are nothing spectacular (48khz/16bit), but if you dig deep on the web, you'll find a long PDF showing the DAC's impressively-flat frequency response graphs. Without op-amps, it seems like the DAC is able to produce some really natural sound for 2CH music. I'm going to upgrade the DC blocker capacitors in mine. So yeah, buy this thing...

Would be great if I could get SPDIF passthrough to work (using Win7 drivers from the install CD).

Windows 7 blocked the driver install the first time I tried to install it, giving me an unsigned driver error, but when running the installer inside the directory named "Windows 7" instead things seemed to go smoothly. If you're having trouble getting the drivers installed, try the installers found within the directories that correspond to your OS and not the setup.exe at the root (or autoplay if you're using the CD). I'm using the adapter to get optical audio from XBMC to my receiver and it's been working fine for the past hour, including DTS passthrough.

Seemed to work well, except the microphone input was too quiet for things like voice chat (what I wanted to use it for). Came with Windows 7 drivers that worked well. Also, Windows Update found some compatible c-media drivers for it.
