Great tool-less design, but it feels like it takes some delicate work to get the drive in without damaging either end. As long as you don't plan on swapping drives in/out of this enclosure frequently, all will hold up fine. The leather sleeve looks hastily put together, but still serves its purpose as padding when carried in a briefcase. Users should keep in mind the power required for older 2.5" drives. Most draw more current than the 500mA a USB port can put out (some older PCs/laptops can't even do that). This is why the cable has 2 plugs on the PC end. The best way to use this product is to plug the 2 USB cables into your computer first, then plug the other end into the enclosure. Works every time for me that way!

I Just got the drive today. Once you fight to fix the hard disk, it it very hard to detach without bending the internal pins. Those are not flexible. I opened a 30GB IDE HDD from a running toshiba laptop. 10 Differerent time it detected as 10 different name. I had 2 partitions on the disk. It does not recognize the primary partition. I could view the contents of one drive ONCE but they ARE ALL in MSDOS 8.3 FILE FORMAT!!! Could not get into the folder. It is a total loss of investment. I would recommend nt to buy this.

Unit received was defective but returning it for replacement would cost nearly as much as I paid for the item.

I ordered two, I had two extra 2.5 drives. Works good on USB 1.1 on my old laptop (2001) reads ntfs and fat 32 under XP. Will not work at all on USB 2.0. I tried both enclosures and on 2 computers, laptop and desktop. Red light comes on, stays on on one, red light comes on and hard drive makes clicking noise on other. The puzzle was why it didn't work at all on the desktop with one cable end plugged in since USB 2.0 is backward compatable with 1.1. The next day I was going over reviews on other enclosures which had the USB cable with two ends that indicated that most needed both cables to be plugged in to power the drive. First I tried again with the laptop (which has a USB 2.0 cardbus adapter) with both ends plugged in to the adapter with no luck. Then I plugged both ends into the back of the desktop and everything worked ok leading me to believe that the problem was not enough power from the USB port.Of course I am changing my rating and would buy again. The drives involved: IBM Travelstar(2001, 40G)and Fujutsu (2000, 6.0G)

Enclosure is difficult to assemble with drive. Is not of high quality, but will do the job if you don't expect too much for the low price.

Umm.. the majority of the previous reviews were right. Tight fit. But it did work, and worked well enough to transfer files at usb 2.0 speed. Great for salvaging hard drives off notebooks that no longer work.

Great price, very nice IDE enclosure. I esp like the fact that there's no extra power supply (uses dual USB connections to power the drive). Would definitely recommend.
