Based on the gender in the photo, your description. It doesn't "Convert a standard 9-pin serial port to USB." It Converts USB to a standard 9-pin serial port.

I ordered THIS item because the picture indicated that it the software driver is included. I received the item with a damaged disk. Meritline customer service was outstanding and made sure that I get a replacement in a timely fashion. With the driver in hand, the adapter works flawlessly. If anybody else has problems with the driver (needs software or instructions) check the web for Prolific USB-to-Serial PL2303.

Cable is great, but driver software did not function properly. Ended up going and getting it off the web, and everything works now.
