Very cheap and works very well and reliably as a USB2.0 to RS-232 bridge (including hardware handshake). After extensive goggling, found documentation (http://wch-ic.com/product/index.asp) for the WinChipHead CH340/CH341 and the driver CH341SER.EXE ( http://wch.cn/download/list.asp?id=65). Would have rated higher but no docs were included and found out much later that the XCS driver CD was hidden between the cardboard packaging.

Product was exactly what was expected. The only complaint was slwo shipping, but it WAS coming from HK, so a little delay should be expected I suppose

Product is listed as compatible with MacOS 8.6 or later. It will not work with my iMac Core2Duo OS X 10.5.7. I've been searching online for drivers, but all of the sites state this device is for Windows use only. Keep in mind I have not contacted Meritline.com for any return, compensation, or service yet. So take that into consideration when reading this review.

Worked great. Plugged into USB port, installed software, connected serial device to it, success. Only paid $4.99 on sale with free shipping but still worth the $9.99 price now. It came direct from Hong Kong, in about two weeks.

Works great. However, go find and download the drivers from Prolific PL-2303 and google for ser2pl.sys. Saved me a couple times already. Works in Windows XP and 7 and Ubunutu 9.04/.10

Surprisingly effective. I added this to a netbook that did not have bluetooth. It was recognized immediately. It disappears onto the side of the netbook. It works as it should.

Does not work on a motherboard with a RS232 port operating with Windows XP. Will work with a newer computer without a RS232 port.

Bought 3, didn't ship for almost a week (previous Meritline orders have been very fast), and all 3 defective. Bad manufacturing run?... ports register, drivers fine, but no I/O. Console app even sees serial line go hi, but don't get usable connection. Tried on multiple PCs with Windows and Linux, all same results. One of three purchased also had bad solder or bad wire, as would fail when it was giggled. Very disappointing, and probably going to cost more than it's worth to ship back unless they'll just send me replacements and I can throw these away.

Good. USB shows up as a COM port, which is what I wanted it to do.

I needed this for a Linux system. It doesn't work with the EL5 2.6.18 kernel version, but it works great with more recent kernel versions.

I bought 4 of these to use with laptops to connect to serial test equipment and CNC controls. One was DOA, but as usual, Meritline immediately credited that one. All the others worked well. Meritline is an excellent company with great deals. They have always stood behind any products which came in defective.
