I used it on my old IDE hard drive, but it did not work. One pin of the power cable is disconnected (without terminal). I have no idea whether this is a design or on purpose. I would guess it's a defective product because all four wires are available but the terminal is missing. I don't have other device to check against it at this time. How can I return or exchange it free of shipping charge?

There is a terminal on the power supply that was intentionally omitted but should have no impact to it's intended function. The Red is +5v, Yellow is +12v and the two middle terminals (one missing)in Black is the Ground. If you look carefully at your IDE drive you will see that the two middle terminals are connected together. The adapter will not work immediately. It will take about a minute before your PC will recognize the USB Mass storage device. For connection: 1. connect the adapter to the drive (Sata use cable supplied). 2. connect the power suppy to the drive. 3. connect the usb to your computer. Wait about a minute for the PC to load and recognize the Hardware. If it fails try it again after rebooting the PC.

The power supply adapter did not work when I received the product. Subsequently it became useless.

If you have a problem with the power supply take a real look at it. There are four prongs that fit into 4 holes in the adapter to go from ide to sata power. Just push them in all the way. it takes a bit of work but once you get it once it will work every other time. This is the same product that tigerdirect ro newegg sells at a cheaper price. Quite your bitching.

This adapter did not work. One of the four terminals on the power plug is missing. Same problem as the other reviews.

How can Meritline sell this kind of product? Did it go through QC? It could not power up my SATA hard drive. I am glad that it did not cause damage to my drive. These kind of product will only ruin Meritline's name.

Unit works ok with 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 ide drives, but faulty power connector burned up my 1TB SATA Drive. I woud not trust it.

This worked right out of the box, and made an old Sata drive I took out of a broken junked PC light up and read/write accessible via USB. Very good purchase for the price!

It works great, at a fraction of the price of a external docking. I was able to work on hard drive without put into computer. A must buy!

Worked great on a SATA 2.5 inch notebook hard drive and IDE DVD-RW drive so far! I had one issue connecting the hard drive (XP formatted) to a PC running Vista, but when I did connect it to a PC running XP it got recognized right away.

The product works great... very simple and easy to use. My only criticism is that it would be great if the cables came with a little carrying case.

Unfortunately I have to give this product a bad review. I ordered 2, and neither one of them work with IDE. At all. I tried 4 different IDE devices and notta. I dont think they are "damaged", I just dont think they work. Works fine with SATA. Mine also came with a missing connector on the molex power plug. It’s the 12v ground thats missing. Drives still get power but I dont see how they would be grounded properly. I have one of the more expensive models from elsewhere and it does work with IDE and seems to be built a lot better. An on/off switch would have been nice for the power.

The product didn't work for me. Is there any instruction manual available.I didn't get one in my package so not sure if the adapter is faulty or i am doing something wrong.
