When I saw that this Remote Control had a button to open Windows 7 Media Center (All the other inexpensive(Cheap) media center remotes do not) I said to myself "Maybe they've done this one right" and I wasn't disappointed. Perfect.

This actually works very well for me. I'm using it for an XBMC based media center. The key output mimics a keyboard, which works well for XBMC, but your mileage may vary. There isn't any software included for customizing what buttons do; it appears to be basically a small multimedia keyboard. The directional arrows can do both mouse AND keyboard arrow inputs; there is a blue button on the remote to switch back and forth. The manual is 1 page in bad english, so I thought I'd point that out. As always Meritline really impresses as long as you aren't in a hurry for your item.

Got it in 2 weeks exactly. Good commercial packaging. Thoughtful enough to include a usb extension cable so you can move the IR rxer around. The functionality using MS Media Centre is very intuitive and works like a dream. Didn't test for range, but works nicely on my laptop. Going to buy a TV tuner card since this is such an elegant solution for using laptop as TV while traveling. Lots of options on the remote I won't use, but nice to have options. Also able to manipulate mouse pointer with it. I like that. Good job. Well worth the ~$9.00.

Just plug the usb adapter in and it works. Really like the mouse feature. Can't beat it at this price.

For those who prefer enhanced functionality, I recommend the item sold by Meritline named "Multi Function Plug and Play PC Remote Control with USB Receiver". It's silver colored and does have a narrow (albeit strong) beam, and the figuring out custom shortcuts can be a challenge, but just from looking at closeups of both, it can do much more. But if you're looking for more basic functionality, this may be the one. I own the silver one and will probably order another; this one lacks certain features I find important so I won't be getting this one, even though I don't see reviewers complaining about a narrow beam on this one. I do think that whatever you get, these are great devices to have.

Works great in windows 7. You can even control the mouse. Just plug and play...the best WMC Remote I have ever seen.

This remote was a disappointment to me. Mostly because the description states a 200 degree operating angle, but I found it needed to be pointed directly at the receiver. I was using this remote to operate Powerpoint presentations and it caused the computer to crash right in the middle. I imagine that it could be just this remote and possibly other circumstances on the computer that caused the crash. When it worked it did everything it was supposed to, but was impractical for my uses as it needed to be pointed directly at the receiver.
