Mardaani 2 Movie Review- Story Synopsis
In this sequel of Gopi Puthran’s 2014 film, Mardaani, Rani Mukherjee reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy. She is essaying the role of Superintendent of Police at the Kota, Rajasthan station. She is a fierce, no-nonsense police officer who takes on the psychopath criminals of the city. In the first path, she dealt with child traffickers, this time she is dealing with the cruel rapist-killer.
The story is not only of her fight against the 21-year old villain but it’s her fight against the patriarchal outlook of her colleagues. In addition to the chase between Rani Mukherjee and the killer, played by Vishal Jethwa, the story involves contract killings, subterfuge, political interference, and some really smart investigation skills.
Mardaani 2 Cast Review- Rani Mukherjee plays a Ruthless Villain
Rani Mukherjee has once again proved to be one of the finest actors in the industry with her ferocious role of Shivani Shivaji Roy. Once again she has silenced the naysayers with her performance. Shivani is a straight-talking cop for whom she puts gender above everything. And Rani with her restrained and measured acting has done complete justice to the role. She captures the nuances without going over-the-top with her theatrics. She is just as determined as she needs to be to get hold of the heinous criminals, and murderers.
Talking about the antagonist, Vishal Jethwa has performed like a powerhouse. He is a complete surprise as he portrays his character confidently. To be honest he has outshined, our protagonist in some scenes. For a debutant, this innocent-looking guy has given quite an unnerving performance. And what makes his character more real is his rustic Rajasthani accent. He definitely gets a brownie point for this.
The antagonist is quite interesting against the strikingly brave protagonist.
Mardaani 2 Movie- Soundtrack Review
With such a gripping storyline, it won’t be correct to expect a sad song or an item number. Even though films revolving around cops manage to have one, Mardaani 2 does not even have a token song sequence. It doesn’t have any frills attached for the entertainment of its audience except a thrilling story and exceptional performances.
Mardaani 2 has managed to bring out the gory, darkness and excessive violence with simplicity and a lot of ease. However, in subject matters like brutal sexual violence, screenplay like this only can create awareness amongst the shock viewers. The background score is also subtle.
Mardaani 2 Movie Review
The film begins nicely, with the very first scene-setting the tone of the film. Gopi Puthran has directed the alarming saga of a psycho rapist cum killer who is on the loose with grave seriousness. However soon the story turns into a revenge drama where the rapists start to get their desserts while the cat and mouse chase is still going on.
There are times when the director has set the focus on the techniques employed by Shivani and her team to nab the criminals, keeping the medieval mindset and horror of rape at the back seat. The theme thus swiftly sifts from crime drama to a statement of women empowerment.
The pace of the film is persistent, with the first and the second half is equally engaging. There are times when the villain will be outsmarting the cops, but don’t worry, it will only add to the thrill. The efforts are taken by Shivani to crack the case and prove the criminals are worth appreciating. The climax scene is unnerving to the next level where Shivani is beating up the guy with her belt however one part of you would definitely want to cheer up.
Mardaani 2 has a total runtime of 2 hours and I bet that you will be hooked to your seats from the first to the last scene.
Having a hard-hitting movie like Mardaani 2 is perhaps the need of the hour. In today’s world, it is important to raise awareness of issues like gender inequality and women’s safety. So if you too are feeling sad for the crimes happening around, then celebrate women’s power and justice with Mardaani 2.
