New to Jersey Mike’s? If you’re not sure of what to order and you just want something that’s really delicious, you can’t go wrong with our list of recommended subs!
The Number Four
Sure, the name isn’t exactly imaginative, as this is the #4 sandwich in the Jersey Mike’s lineup. But this is the sort of sandwich many people imagine they’d be enjoying if they ever get the chance to visit Italy.
It all starts with the meats, namely the prosciuttini and the cappacuolo. The prosciuttini is a kind of polish ham that’s been seasoned with black pepper. The cappacuolo is taken from the neck and should area of the hog, giving it a nice balance of meat and fat.
These are the only 2 types of meat in the Number Four, so you’re able to focus on the individual tastes along with the flavor of the combination.
Then you get the provolone cheese, which gives you a break from the standard white American cheese found on many of the other subs. You also get the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, along with the oregano, salt, vinegar, and oil.
All in all, it’s rich and hearty, and you really need to try this. Once you do, there’s a very good chance it’ll be your new favorite.
Chicken Philly Sub
Those who focus on healthy fast-food items (if there are such things) say that this is perhaps the healthiest of the Hot Subs at Jersey Mike’s. It contains low levels of calories, fat, and sodium, comparatively speaking. Yet you also get 45g of protein.
But the taste is absolutely great as well. The chicken is comfortingly familiar, and it’s grilled. Plus, it’s partnered with the time-tested triumvirate of white American cheese, peppers, and onions. You pay just $9.95 for a Chicken Philly sub, and you get full value for every cent you spend.
Grilled Portabella Mushroom and Swiss
If you’re going vegetarian, or if you’re not in the mood for meat (it happens sometimes), then get this. There’s another vegetarian option on the Jersey Mike’s menu, but this is much better. It features fresh portabella mushrooms with green peppers, along with onions and Swiss cheese.
Despite its vegetarian nature, this sandwich feels substantial. In fact, you somehow get the feeling that the texture resembles meat. That’s the feeling caused by the grilled mushrooms, which also offer an umami taste. That taste is then counterbalanced by the sweetness of the other ingredients (especially the cheese).
Try this, and you get the flavor and the substance you’re looking for. You won’t have to feel like you’re still hungry afterward.
Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak
You combine familiar and comforting items when you mix the chicken with the buffalo sauce. But this is hardly boring since it also comes with Frank’s Red Hot sauce to spice things up. Yet it’s not too spicy that people won’t be able to handle it. It’s just right.
Add the lettuce, tomato, white American cheese, and blue cheese dressing, and this is a chicken cheesesteak you’d order often. The flavor is both heavenly and comfortingly familiar.
Chipotle Chicken Cheese Steak
If the Buffalo sauce isn’t really your thing, and you want things a bit spicier, then you might want to try this one. It features the chipotle mayo, which offers a richer flavor along with a nice, spicy kick. Again, it doesn’t go overboard with the spiciness, as the chipotle mayo brings more flavor than heat.
That chipotle mayo does go very well with the chicken, along with the grilled onions and peppers plus the white American cheese. It’s certainly not a boring option, but it sure goes down nicely.
Big Kahuna Cheese Steak
This features jalapeños, and the addition of this single ingredient really enhances the overall flavor. The spiciness becomes a lot more noticeable, though thankfully it’s not quite overwhelming. Most people can take the heat.
With the jalapeños, you also get the steak plus the usual white American cheese with onions and peppers. You do get mushrooms as well, which really ups the flavor. In fact, try and see if you can get extra mushrooms, and pay for it if you have to. These mushrooms are just fantastic.
This may not be the best option for those with sensitive stomachs due to the jalapeños. But for everyone else, it’s a great option that makes sure you’re not bored (or remain hungry afterward).
Cancro Special
The legend goes that a Pepsi delivery man, way back in 1974, asked for a sub that combined roast beef with salami. The folks at Jersey Mike’s indulged him, but they eventually tried that combo themselves. They liked it well enough, and lots of other people also liked it as well. It even bears the Cancro family name (Peter Cancro is the CEO).
Roast beef and salami may be a rather strange pair-up even now, but it’s surprisingly delicious. It does help that it features provolone instead of the usual white American cheese. With the onions, lettuce, and tomatoes, it’s a real winner.
