The theatrical release calendar is going through a lot of change. Both Bollywood and Hollywood are taking the route of digital platforms to release their films. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the makers are either re-scheduling the release or releasing it online for the audience. Marvel Studios and Disney have already postponed the release of their films Mulan and Black Widow. Releasing films on digital platforms is a great way to avoid the box office backlash. The period of Coronavirus effect is uncertain and so one cannot just wait for it to get over. Here are some films that are taking a different route.

Upcoming Hollywood Digital Releases

While the release of some of the films has been pushed for an uncertain time, some of them have got a release date. And so here are those movies that will be available to the audience, even in the wake of the Corona Virus pandemic.

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl is a kiddie fantasy movie starring Ferdia Shaw in the lead. He is a 12-year old genius who ends up in an epic battle against a team of powerful underground fairies, who might be the reason behind the disappearance of his father. The film was scheduled to release on 29 May 2020. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, it is getting a worldwide release on 12 June 2020 on Disney+.

Fantasy Island

The beginning of 2020 started with a horror and thriller film called Fantasy Island. The film released in the US on 14th February 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 issue, not all could hit the theatres. And so the makers decided to release it on digital platform like YouTube or Google Play on 14 April 2020. It is a supernatural horror film where five people’s dream fantasies come to life when they visit the eponymous island. However, these fantasies turn into living nightmares that they need to survive.

Scoob!

Scooby and the gang are back with their cases to entertain the kids worldwide who cannot go to the theatres. Produced by Warner Animation Group, Scoob! is an animated comedy-mystery film that follows the mystery gang in action. Even though its theatrical release was cancelled, it was released digitally by video on demand on the same date.

The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds is an American rom-com film starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani along with Anna Camp, Paul Sparks, and Kyle Bornheimer. These lovebirds follow a couple who after witnessing a murder go for a run. The film’s original release schedule was 3 April 2020, however, due to the current situation in the world, its release was delayed.

The rights of the film were then sold to Netflix, and it finally released on the platform on 22 May 2020. Check out the trailer of the film here.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always

It is a highly acclaimed film at the Berlin Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. Never Rarely Sometimes Always is a story about a teen who goes through an unintended pregnancy and further faces a lack of local support. It is the story of Autumn and Skylar, her cousin and their journey of bravery, friendship and compassion as they travel through the city. The film’s initial release was set on 24 January 2020, however, it got postponed. The film was then released digitally on 3 April 2020.
