Apple confirmed its purchase of Silicon Valley-based company, WiFiSLAM earlier this year. It is rumored that it bought the company for $20 million. WiFiSLAM was founded by a former Google engineering intern and the company owns technology that enables mobile apps to locate a person’s mobile handset inside a building using Wi-Fi signals.
Indoor-GPS is a move to yet another level of mobile location services that would assist app developers in producing indoor mapping technology and new types of retail and social networking apps and of course, act as a step towards improving Apple’s overall GPS technology.
