Shoes fitted with built-in GPS have become a reality. These Aetrex Navistar GPS shoes were recently launched in Britain and come fitted with a miniature GPS system similar to those used in satellite navigation systems found in cars. Originally made for the benefit of Alzheimer’s patients, these shoes enable Alzheimer’s patients to be monitored remotely. Family members can then make use of a downloaded app to find out the location of the missing person.
The GPS device is implanted in the heel of the shoe and contains a battery which requires charging approximately every two days, Sim card and integrated chip. An antenna and a SUB connection to charge up the battery runs up the back heel of the shoe.
