The New Pope, which is the HBO’s sequel series to The Young Pope, is all set to return Jude Law joined by co-star John Malkovich. Yes, The New Pope is coming as a Season 2 and is an upcoming drama television series created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino for Sky Atlantic, HBO, and Canal+. This one is a continuation of the 2016 series The Young Pope.

The new season is going to be the nine-episode series starring Jude Law, reprising his role as Pope Pius XIII, and John Malkovich as Pope John Paul III, the titular “New Pope”. The series is co-produced by European production companies Wildside, Haut et Court TV, and Mediapro.

This is likely to be followed by an unpredictable and mysterious turn of events where you will witness that the Secretary of State Voiello succeeds in having Sir John Brannox, who is a charming and sophisticated moderate English aristocrat.

He is placed on the papal throne, adopting the name John Paul III. The new pope seems to be ideal, but you will see further as he conceals secrets and has a certain brittleness. On the other hand, Voiello immediately will understand that it will not come to be easy replacing the charismatic Pius XIII. Lenny Belardo has become a Saint while hanging between life and death.

Meanwhile, the Church is under attack from external threats and scandals are striking the symbols of Christianity which will risk irreversibly devastating the hierarchies. As always, however, in the Vatican, nothing seems to be fine.

The latest trailer shows that Pope John Paul III will be welcomed into the papacy.

He, in the teaser, is heard saying: “Everyone in the world should know who the Pope is. It’s not vanity, it’s a necessity.”

However, it seems the new Pope has an unstable vein, just like his predecessor. Another short clip has a glimpse that as Pope Pius XIII is in his coma will be threatened and he could wake up retaking his title.

Who is in the cast of The New Pope on HBO?

The biggest and exciting addition to the second season of the HBO series comes with John Malkovich joining as Pope John Paul III. The Oscar-nominated actor has also appeared in films like Being John Malkovich and In the Line of Fire.

On the other hand, Jude Law will be seen returning as Pope Pius XIII after being nominated for a Golden Globe for his season one performance.

Alongside this famous duo, the latest series is all set to feature other impressive cameos that may include Hollywood actor Sharon Stone and American musician Marilyn Manson.

Other cast members returning to the cast include Silvio Orlando as Cardinal Angelo Voiello, Javier Cámara as Cardinal Bernardo Gutierrez and Cécile de France as Sofia.

However, Diane Keaton is not expected to be returning as Sister Mary.
