Hollywood’s most famous award ceremony, the 92nd Academy Awards, otherwise called The Oscars 2020 finally aired live on ABC Sunday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. EST in some 225 countries. This Hollywood ceremony is known to celebrate the best films of the year. You can otherwise stream this show on the following subscription streaming services: Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV, AT&T TV Now and YouTube TV.

Where did the Oscars held?

2020 marks the 92nd Oscars ceremony that took place at the same location as last year’s event, the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Who was the host?

Like the previous year, this time also The Oscars were hostless. Janelle Monáe opened the 92nd Academy Awards by putting the audience on notice “I’m so proud to stand here as a black queer artist telling stories,” she said before launching into a jazzy song-and-dance number that found her duetting with Billy Porter and, ultimately, singing in a flower-covered coat while lying in an aisle.

Thereafter, Chris Rock and Steve Martin took the stage — serving as the de facto hosts for a ceremony that was officially hostless and took turns skewering the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for putting forward an overwhelmingly white group of nominees and, once again, overlooking women in the directing category.

Who were the 2020 Oscar nominees?

Some of the nominations for this year’s awards included films such as “Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood” starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DeCaprio; “The Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix; “1917” starring Benedict Cumberpatch, Netflix’s two successful 2019 originals, “Marriage Story” starring Scarlette Johanson and “The Irishman” starring Robert De Niro; and many others.

The Oscar nominations for Best Director came with all five nominees as men, including Martin Scorsese (The Irishman), Sam Mendes (1917) and Bong Joon Ho (Parasite), despite there being recently acclaimed films directed by women. Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lulu Wang (The Farewell) and Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood) were all missed off the director shortlist.

India’s Oscar entry this year, Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, exited the race at the shortlist stage.
