What Happened in the Group Matches

There were teams from Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi’an, and more! These 17 teams battled it out in group stage matches, with each team playing the other once. After every team had played 16 matches, the top 10 teams advanced to the playoffs.

Top Esports and JD Gaming dominated the group stage of the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2022 Summer. They both won 14 games and only lost 2. The teams were playing ultra-aggressive and fast, which left their opponents with no option but to wilt. Other teams included Victory Five and Royal Never Give Up, who posted impressive 13-2 records.

Edward Gaming didn’t have the best regular season but still came in fourth with an 11-5 record. Rare Atom and Team We had a terrible season. They were both eliminated with a poor 4-12 record and a shocking 0-16 record.

The other teams who made it to the playoffs included Bilibili Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, Oh My God, LNG Esports, and Weibo Gaming. The teams ranked from 3rd to 10th had to play a number of playoff rounds, while the top 2 ranked teams went directly to the quarter-finals. Let’s see which team found their form in the playoffs and made a deep run.

What Went Down in the Playoffs

In the first round of the playoffs, Oh My God fell to FunPlus Phoenix in an epic 5-match series. In the other round, in 1 match LNG was far too strong for BLG and won 3-1. Round 2 saw Edward Gaming absolutely crush FunPlus Phoenix, 3-1, while in the other round 2 matchup, Weibo Gaming lost to LNG.

Edward Gaming kept their dreams of winning the event alive when they took Royal Never Give Up in a fun 4 match series. It seemed like Edward Gaming was getting better every match. They looked like a new team compared to the regular season, where their form was all over the place.

Victory Five had a tough battle with LNG. The series came down to the final match, where at the very end, LNG showed their class and won! This set up a crazy hyped quarter-final with JD Gaming.

LNG tried their best to upset JD Gaming, but the number 2 ranked team proved way too strong. JD Gaming ended up crushing LNG 3-0. LNG was not happy and looked deflated out there. Nothing they tried seemed to work, as JD Gaming made it look easy.

In the other quarter-final match, Edward Gaming ran into the monster Top Esports. Edward Gaming was playing amazingly well and even managed to win 2 games to force a final 5th match. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to overcome Top Esports, who won the series 3-2.

Edward Gaming was sent directly to the loser’s bracket, where they swiftly defeated LNG. This win progressed them to the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, Top Esports was defeated by JD Gaming which set up a rematch between Top Esports and Edward Gaming.

In the second semi-final Edward Gaming again tried their best but once again could not handle Top Esports’ strategy. Top Esports seemed to have figured out Edward Gaming and had an answer for everything they threw at them. In the end, Top Esports won 3-0.

The grand final is set to take place on the 1st of September between Top Esports and JD Gaming. These were the best two teams during the regular season with impressive 14-2 records. And then, in the playoffs, they showed their skill by beating out their rivals.

As JD Gaming already defeated Top Esports 3-2 in the semi-finals, we are picking them to repeat their impressive performance and win the title. However, expect Top Esports to make some adjustments and really push JD Gaming. We expect this series to come down to the final game.
