First introduced in 1968, the Toyota Hilux is one of the most popular lineups of pick-up trucks in the world. One of the oldest cars is now presenting the 8th generation with the latest facelift taking place in 2020. This car is known as a car to do a variety of tough jobs. The appeal of the Toyota Hilux has made it sold at least 19 million units since its first generation.

Even though now the latest generation Toyota Hilux only has two variants, namely Single Cabin and Double Cabin, the New Toyota Hilux which was introduced in August 2020 comes in 6 different types. Both Single or Double Cabin have 4×2 petrol, 4×2 diesel and 4×4 diesel.

The difference between all these types is related to the features and comfort of the cabin. Toyota provides five types including Double Cabin Type V, Double Cabin Type G, Double Cabin Type E, Single Cabin 4×4 and Single Cabin 4×2.

What makes Toyota Hilux is Popular?

The Toyota Hilux is a popular car in Thailand. When this car was introduced, many people immediately wanted to buy it. There are several reasons why this car is popular in Thailand as we will explain below.

1. Design Shows that the Toyota Hilux is a Car for Everything You Need

The New Toyota Hilux did not provide many changes to its design. However, this car gives a tough impression as a car for all your needs. The appearance of this pickup car is also a little different in each type but the impression is powerful because of the bonnet setup that is standard on all variant. This car is available in five colours: Silver Metallic, Super White, Crimson Red, Attitude Black and Dark Gray Mica Metallic. Toyota has only made slight changes to the grille that has become the hallmark of the Hilux until this latest generation.

On the interior, Toyota doesn’t seem to prioritize dashboard features and setup too much. We know that cars like the Toyota Hilux are not prioritized for having complete entertainment features. However, Toyota still provides infotainment features based on AUX, USB, CD player and FM radio which are standard in almost all variants except the D-Cab type V.

While on the highest variant, the Toyota Hilux has better features with a 7 inch Head Unit with all the best features such as Bluetooth, DVD, radio and USB. These features make the Hilux price for the highest variant more expensive than the other variants.

2. Responsive Handling

Toyota added several new features such as Variable Flow Control Power Steering which is claimed to be able to make the steering wheel rotation up to 5% lighter. With this feature, the handling of the famously responsive Toyota Hilux is much better and more comfortable.

Toyota has also updated the car’s suspension system. For the Single Cabin 4×4 variant and all types of Double Cabin, this manufacturer has attached a leaf-per-shape arrangement that will make the New Toyota Hilux feel more balanced when driving around corners.

Not only that, but Toyota has also prepared a series of new features such as Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Assist Control, Trailer Sway Control and Emergency Brake Signal. But unfortunately, this Japanese manufacturer still seems to choose to love Airbags because only type V has seven airbags available, while other types only get Dual SRS Airbags.

3. Toyota Hilux has a Turbo Engine

The new Toyota Hilux has two engine options, namely petrol and diesel engines. But there are interesting things about the diesel engine used by the New Toyota Hilux. The turbo diesel engine with code 2GD-FTV has a different output depending on where it is installed. When the engine is used in single cabin variants, both 4×2 and 4×4 types, the machine is capable of producing power reaching 149.6 HP at 3,400 rpm with a torque of 343 Nm at 1,400 rpm.

Meanwhile, when the diesel engine is paired with a double cabin 4×4 configuration from the New Toyota Hilux, the resulting engine power is in the same range, but the torque reaches 400 Nm at 1,600 rpm.

Then what about the gasoline engine? Toyota uses a DOHC Dual VVT-i 1TR-FE engine with a capacity of 2,000 cc which is specifically prepared for the Single Cabin 4×2 option. This machine is claimed to be capable of spewing out 139 HP at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Cars with petrol engines also use a 6-speed manual system with a diff lock combination. There is also a 6-speed automatic system but this variant is only available for the Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Type V which is the most expensive variant.

4. The Price

With improvements in the exterior, interior and safety technology that are increasingly complete, the New Toyota Hilux is now priced slightly more than the previous generation. For the cheapest variant, this is the Single Cabin type with a gasoline engine. While the most expensive variant for the Single Cabin type is the Toyota Hilux 4×4 which uses a diesel engine.

Now we move to the Double Cabin type. The cheapest variant is the New Toyota Hilux type E. While the most expensive variant is the Toyota Hilux type V.

Conclusion

The new Toyota Hilux presents changes in several parts. The first impression when you see this car is a design that shows that the New Toyota Hilux is a car for all your needs. This car does not experience significant changes in its interior design. Only for the most expensive variant that is provided with a 7 inch Head Unit with all the best features such as Bluetooth, DVD, radio and USB.

The New Toyota Hilux also has more responsive handling than the previous generation. Toyota has also updated the car’s suspension system. For the Single Cabin 4×4 variant and all types of Double Cabin, this manufacturer has attached a leaf-per-shape arrangement that will make the New Toyota Hilux feel more balanced when driving around corners.
