There’s a big wide world out there beyond your computer screen and, although it can be tempting to just while away your holiday leave on your games console, there are ways you can combine your love of gaming with some actual holidaying. Whether you’re a gamer who’s looking to get away or the partner of a gamer desperately searching for the ultimate gift, we’ve got some destinations that will blow even the best video games right out of the water.

Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is one of the oldest and most glamorous gaming locations in the world. The Casino de Monte Carlo is a truly exclusive gaming experience that will appeal to anyone who enjoys casino gaming or just feeling like absolute royalty. The casino is clad throughout in decadent dark wood paneling, with heavy brocade drapes and glittering chandeliers dripping with crystals. The setting is as opulent as it gets and the games available are pretty brilliant too. You can expect all of the usual favorite table games such as poker, baccarat, craps and, of course, roulette. There is a small entry fee to the table gaming room, but you can play slots without paying to enter. The slot machines are a little more limited than in the other locations on this list, but half the fun of visiting this casino is being able to imagine you’ve stepped back in time by a century, so we get why they’re not super prevalent.

Vegas

Make sure to catch a pool party whilst in Vegas

Vegas is synonymous with casinos. The city of lights is likely to be the absolute dream destination for gaming fans. With so many casinos to choose from, you’ll probably be able to find one that fits your budget but be warned – big buffets, variety shows, and pool parties don’t come cheap. Whatever you’re spending on your hotel, expect to spend at least that on further entertainment. After all, if you’re traveling all the way to Vegas, it makes sense to make the most of absolutely everything on offer. Of course, certain tourist spots like the Bellagio fountain and the Strip can be enjoyed for free, so if the budget is an issue, there are ways to make a smaller spend possible.

Macau

Whilst there are cheap and free things to do in Vegas if you spend the time researching them, the same cannot be said for Macau. Despite being a relative newcomer to the gaming holiday scene, Macau has cemented itself as perhaps the most luxurious destination. Incredibly, Macau has no less than forty-one casinos, even though it is just a tiny island. Of these casinos, the largest is the Venetian and it really is worth a visit. Sat right on the Cotai Strip, which was actually inspired by Vegas, the Venetian is one of the most exclusive resorts in Macau. All of the rooms feature floor to ceiling windows affording guests panoramic views of the bay, but if that’s not quite close enough to the water, guests are also invited to take rides along the indoor canals in purpose-made gondolas.

A Casino Cruise

If you like the idea of a holiday but just can’t commit to one place, then you could always take a cruise. Believe it or not, there are a lot of cruise ship casinos that make the perfect destination for the indecisive holidaymaker. Most cruise ships offer a casino of some description, but there is a handful that really goes above and beyond, of which the Queen Mary 2 is one of the best. The casino is surrounded by enormous windows, meaning that guests can enjoy panoramic sea views whilst playing. Wood paneling and architectural lighting make this casino feel a real cut above the rest.
